pH measurement is usually done with the use of a combination electrode. The combination electrode is an electrode system formed by a glass sensing half-cell and an internal reference half-cell. As the reference junction acts as the medium of conductor between the reference electrolyte and the sample to be measured, it must allow free movement of electrons through the junction and into the sample.
A potential develops on the membrane surface when a pH electrode comes into contact with a sample and its value varies with the pH of the sample. This variation in potential is measured in mV by a meter and is converted to direct pH values.

Stable reference systems are the heart of reliably functioning, long-lasting electrodes. In pH measurement up till now, the user was not spared the need for frequent calibration. The reason for this lies in shifting reference potentials due to chloride loss in the reference electrolyte. However, contaminated and partially clogged diaphragms also contribute considerably to changing properties in pH electrodes, which can only be resolved with a fresh calibration. For pH measurements where a very high degree of accuracy is required, it should therefore be sufficient if the pH sensor is calibrated just before measuring. But in industrial applications - especially in the case of online pH measurement - this is possible only with a great deal of effort, if at all. What is even worse: even if a calibration with certified pH buffers is correctly carried out, the very next measurement will not necessarily be accurate! Depending on the age of the electrode or, more precisely, the state of the diaphragm and the chloride content in the reference electrolyte, different diffusion potentials may occur in buffers and measurement medium. Technically speaking, it is impossible to eliminate this source of error entirely, but with pHeasy technology it is possible to detect it online!
Hamilton, with its pH glasses and the ingenious inner buffer, has built true long term stability into pHeasy electrodes.

This economically designed meter is ideal for use in process control monitoring or anywhere a small, accurate meter is needed. The VARIO is small, light, handy, waterproof and has a robust firmgrip rubber armoring.
Miniature precision, the VARIO Cond Sets:
• The VARIO Cond KIT with 4 electrodes conductivity cell: The globally renown measuring cell TetraCon® 325 was specially shortened and modified for the VARIO Cond. Therefore very precise measurement in the range from 10 µS to 200 mS can be done.
• The VARIO Cond KIT with ultrapure water cell and flow-through vessel: A 2 electrodes stainless steel cell for ultrapure water with plug head and flow-through vessel and a cell constant of 0.1 enables measurements down to 0.1 µS.
Increased precision through the omission of cable connectors – the VARIO Cond is suitable for all measuring tasks for drinking water, process technology, semiconductor technology or pharmaceutical industry.

electrical current. As the ranges in aqueous solutions are usually small, the basic units of measurements are milliSiemens/cm (mS/cm) and microSiemens/cm (µS/cm).
Conductivity is used widely to determine the level of impurities in water supplies for domestic consumption as well as industrial use. Industries that employ this method include the chemical, semi-conductor, power generation, hospitals, textile, iron and steel, food and beverage, mining,
electroplating, pulp and paper, petroleum and marine industries.
Specific applications include chemical streams, demineraliser output, reverse osmosis, stream boilers, condensate return, waste streams, boiler blowdown, cooling towers, desalinisation, laboratory analysis, fruit peeling and salinity level detection in oceanography.
Some applications require the measurement of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in mg/L, parts per million (ppm) or parts per thousand (ppt). The TDS concentration can be obtained by multiplying the conductivity value with a factor which is empirically determined. The total TDS is a mass estimate and is dependent on the mix of chemical species as well as the concentration while Conductivity is only dependent on the concentration of chemical species.
Eutech offers a wide range of conductivity meters for these various applications.

HI 8633 and HI 8733 have been designed specifically for use in areas of production and quality control. It is often necessary to test samples with different concentrations ranging from deionized water to brine.
The amperometric system would require constant recalibration and probe changes, thus making the measurement process very time consuming and unreliable. To solve this problem, HANNA instruments has developed the HI 8633, which uses a 4-ring potentiometric probe. The rugged probe is made of PVC - ideal for indoor, as well as outdoor measurements.
By using one point calibration, it is now possible to obtain accurate readings across a very wide range, from 0.1 to 199900 µS/cm.
If temperature of the solution fluctuates, HI 8733, with a built-in temperature sensor and Automatic Temperature Compensation, is the perfect instrument.
As an accessory, HI 721313 is available. The kit includes a rugged carrying case with a beaker, a calibration screwdriver and standardizing solution at 12880 µS/cm.

HI 991003 is the first pH meter that can measure pH, pH-mV (to check the electrode status), ORP and temperature with only one probe.
Since ORP measurements are strongly effected by pH levels, HANNA instruments has developed the first meter that simultaneously measures both ranges. With all other instruments you need to switch the pH electrode with an ORP electrode (or vise-versa) and, therefore, it is impossible to have both measurements at the same time.
HI 991003 is largely used to control plating bath waste water, swimming pool water quality and potable water sanitizing processes.
HI 991003 is provided with our unique Sensor Check feature that allows the user to establish the status of the pH electrode before performing measurements. The Sensor Check feature consists of a pH-mV scale that shows the characteristics (slope and offset) of the sensor, allowing the user to determine if the electrode is in good condition.
HI 991003 is protected in a waterproof casing for use in humid and wet environments. It also features a large dual-level LCD that displays pH or ORP and temperature readings simultaneously.

Titrando %u2013 touch the future
Titrimetry - one of the oldest analytical methods - has lost none of its relevance despite the introduction of many analytical methods. This is due not only to the unique advantages offered by the titration method but also to the advanced development in instrumental titrimetry.
The Metrohm titrator family Titrando offers state-of-the-art technology for modern laboratories. It is entirely oriented towards quality control of management in the laboratory and offers control of the rights of access and complete traceability up to the 'calibration history' of the sensors. It meets the requirement of GLP/GMP and 21 CFR Part 11.
Operating the Titrando System is simple and intuitive. No matter whether you operate the Titrando with the Touch Control or via a PC and a mouse - both appearance and operation are practically identical. The system's operator guidance can be regarded as exemplary.
The Titrando system expands to meet your requirements:
The basic unit consists of a Titrando with one measuring interface. This basic unit can be extended to form a super-titrator that controls up to 12 burets and boasts 6 galvanically separated measuring interfaces.
