Honeywell environment sealed proximity sensors use a variety of technologies, including Eddy Current Killed Oscillator (ECKO) and Hall-effect, which are used to detect metallic objects passing in front of the sensing face. Once a target metal is detected, a trigger signal is produced and passed through the output conditioning circuitry to give an output that can be configured according to the sensor's application. These rugged, one or two-piece products meet demanding requirements such as temperature, vibration, shock and EMI/EMP interference. They are available in a variety of housing materials and termination styles, and meet military standards.
Best Used For:
Harsh environments such as aerospace, ordnance and marine applications.

In all automated processes the use of sensors to provide information for the plc is of prime importance. Sensors supply the necessary signals on positions, end stops, levels or serve as pulse transmitters for counting jobs or for monitoring rotational speed. In industrial usage inductive and capacitive proximity switches are indispensable. As compared to mechanical switches they offer almost ideal conditions: non-contact, maintenance-free operation, high switching frequencies and switching accuracies as well as high protection against vibration, dust and humidity. Inductive sensors detect all metals without contact, capacitive sensors detect nearly all solid and liquid media such as metal, glass, wood, plastic, water, oil, etc..

Position and movement detection is indispensable in the automation industry. Non-contact proximity switches allow for a significantly higher number of switch operations than mechanically operated switching elements. The different elobau variants usually use reed technology and are operated with magnets. Steel proximity switches and vane switches are the exception as they are operated by a ferrous metal.

The reed switch is an electrical switch operated by an applied magnetic field. It was invented at Bell Telephone Laboratories in 1936 by W. B. Elwood. It consists of a pair of contacts on ferrous metal reeds in a hermetically sealed glass envelope. The contacts may be normally open, closing when a magnetic field is present, or normally closed and opening when a magnetic field is applied.
A magnetic field (such as from an energized coil around the glass tube or a permanent magnet moved towards it) will cause the contacts to pull together, thus completing an electrical circuit. The stiffness of the reeds causes them to separate, and open the circuit, upon removal of the magnetic field. A more complicated configuration contains a nonferrous normally closed contact that opens when the ferrous normally open contact closes. Good electrical contact is assured by plating a thin layer of precious metal over the flat contact portions of the reeds.

PSEN sensor technology, Safety for man and machine
Safety switches ... for safety gate and position monitoring :
Hazardous machine movements must be stopped when a guard is opened. It must not be possible to either defeat or manipulate these guards. PSEN safety switches meet this requirement and are therefore suitable for monitoring gates in safety fences for safety zones, for example.
Safety bolt ... for safety gates in a rugged everyday industrial environment :
For safety gates that are difficult to adjust or in areas where safety gates are often opened and closed, protection must be provided against defeat and manipulation, but a long material service life must also be guaranteed. PSENbolt provides a complete solution, comprising safety switch, handle and bolt.
Safe camera systems : to monitor two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) zones.

BNS range magnetic safety sensors serve to monitor the position of sliding, hinged and removable safety guards. Sensors without integral evaluation can only be used for safety duties to DIN VDE 0660-209 in combination with a safety guard monitor of the AES / AZR range for protection up to Control Category 4 to EN 954-1, see chapter 10.2.
The use of magnetic safety sensors is of particular advantage in cases where extremely dirty conditions can occur or high hygienic standards need to be maintained. This is provided by the simplicity of cleaning the units.
A further advantage is the facility for concealed mounting under non-magnetic materials. Working surfaces and storage areas can be arranged without the need for dust-collecting edges or other functionally required cut-outs or projections.
BNS range magnetic safety sensors can also be used in cases where a precise approach is not possible and greater tolerances are required.
Schmersal make both standard and AS-i Safety at Work magnetic safety sensors.

The RPS-150A analog ultrasonic sensor is mounted in a limit switch housing and is completely self contained. It is powered by 20-30VDC and is reverse polarity protected. It also has a wide beam angle which enables it to detect a target that is not at right angles. A flat target can tilt up to 35 degrees and still be detected. The RPS-150A has 2 short circuit protected analog outputs, 4-20mA and 0-10VDC. These outputs can easily be inverted and can be scaled over almost any range by means of adjusting the zero & span control. For set-up purposes an LED strength indicator is provided.
This LED is green when not detecting and fades to RED as a target moves into place, depending on how much reflected signal is coming back from the target. The frequency of operation is 38.5kHz. There are two ranges available in this model 2" to 40" or 5" to 80". It also features a quick disconnect receptacle. The housing is constructed of plastic valox and has standard 30mm X 60mm limit switch mounting dimensions as well as side holes for mounting the sensor on its side.

Ultrasonic sensors present the ideal solution for non-contact position and distance measurement in all industrial areas where environmental conditions such as dust, smoke or steam may effect the sensors. Objects consisting of a variety of materials can be detected regardless of colour or shape to within millimetres.
The sensor uses very high frequencies that are outside of the human’s audible range, as a data carrier. The time it takes the ultrasonic wave to pass between the sensor and the object is the value for the distance or the position. Ultrasonic sensors have proven their reliability and precision especially in the wood and furniture industry, the construction materials industry, farming equipment, construction equipment and in level control applications.
Pepperl+Fuchs’ ultrasonic sensors currently encompass 8 series of mechanical designs for through-beam, direct detection and reflex operation with more than 40 designs and models. Customer and application specific custom solutions underscore our technological competence in this area of sensors.

Ultrasonic distance sensors are working contactless and can still detect small objects (e.g. wire Æ 1 mm) at considerable distances. They are able to disregard disturbing backgrounds and functions in fog, dust , dirt or extreme lighting is possible. No correction factors have to be applied and colour does not matter.
|
|
Sensors are elementary components of automation. Increasingly precise and wear-free sensors with more and more reliable measurements enable a continuous improvement of the production process. Here, no-touch sensors working with an almost unlimited lifetime are playing a major role. In distance measuring, different measuring methods depending on the measuring range have established themselves. For the medium range between a few centimetres and several metres optical and ultrasonic systems are mainly used. Ultrasonic distance sensors are used in harsh, industrial environments, because they are independent of the material and the colour of the object to be measured, they cannot be disturbed by light, dust and fog, and they work very precisely and linearly with background suppression.
ELTROTEC Sensor GmbH ultrasonics has more than 20 years of experience in addition to the higher-end laser distance sensors with more accuracy, speed and precision. Trust our products for your application in:
