The industrial encoders contain a contact-less magnetic sensor system and a precision toothed wheel. The sensor’s magnetic field is modulated by the passing of the teeth of the measuring wheel.
The resulting sinusoidal and co-sinusoidal voltage is evaluated by the integrated electronic and converted to an incremental output and optionally to an additional analogue current output.
Advantages of the magnetic system:
* Unaffected by condensation on the measuring wheel and is therefore the preferred choice for applications, where ambient temperatures change or where the relative humidity is high. (e.g. outdoors)
* Unaffected by oil or dirt penetration.
* The steel measuring wheel is highly resistant to shock and vibration, unlike glass or plastic graduated discs in other systems.
* Excellent reliability over a very long life because it does not suffer from the ageing effect common to optical systems.

Model 500 Series (Robust)
"Versatile" and "modular" are catchwords that differentiate the incremental and manufacturer of absolute encoders in the Model 500 Series of robust industrial encoders. Used in many different types of industrial applications such as electric motors, industrial cranes, elevators and general automation, the series' mechanical, optical and electrical interfaces have become industry standard. If the standard selection of interfaces does not suit the application's particular requirements, customised, cost-effective solutions may be provided with short lead times.

Incremental encoders supply a certain number of pulses for each shaft revolution. The measurement of the cycle duration or the counting of the pulses per unit of time supplies the speed of the moment. If the pulses after a reference point are added, the calculated value represents a parameter for the scanned angle or the distance covered.
Two-channel professional encoders - with a phase shift of 90 deg. - enable the follow-up electronic equipment to recognise the direction of rotation of the shaft and thus permit bidirectional positioning tasks.
In addition, three-channel incremental encoders provide a so-called zero signal for each revolution.

Incremental encoders
Solid shaft industrial encoders
Incremental encoders generate a certain number of pulses per revolution. The number of pulses is a measure of the distance moved (angular or linear).
Hollow shaft encoder
Hollow shaft encoders are always used when reduced installation length is required or when precision is important where the drive is subjected to high acceleration.
Manufacturer of absolute encoders
Singleturn
Absolute encoders provide a specific numerical value (code value) for each angular position.
Multiturn
Multiturn encoders not only detect angular positions but also distinguish between several revolutions.

| The incremental and manufacturer of absolute encoders of SIKO operate according to the magnetic sensing principle. Rotary motions are transfered to a special sensor electronic by a magnetic ring, which is attached on a hollow shaft or a solid shaft. The translation electronics convert the magnetised pol pitch in up to 2560 pulses / rotation. The counting pulses are converted into signals, which can be processed by controls and/or regulations. |
