A proximity switch is a device which causes a switching action without physical contact. SCHMERSAL proximity switches respond to targets that come within the active range of their generated sensing fields. These units are completely self-contained, and house a field generator, amplifier, and other necessary circuitry to accomplish electronic switching.
The units are all solid state and have no moving parts that can wear out. The electronic switches are not susceptible to contact contamination, contact erosion, or material transfer as are mechanical switches.
Their service life, within their specified ratings, is virtually unlimited. The switching is insensitive to vibration, and is positive (full step function) without chatter, regardles of how slowly the target approaches or recedes from the sensor |

| These new Contrinex size M8 analog sensors are distinguished by their unusually large sensing range from 0 to 4 mm with, at the same time, excellent temperature stability between -25°C and +70°C, as well as outstanding repeat accuracy. Thus, the distances achieved using these devices are far in excess of those achieved with conventional standard sensors where, in order to obtain similar detection values, a model with a diameter of at least M18 would have to be used. In addition, since intermediate digitization has been done away with, the resolution of the Contrinex devices is virtually unlimited. The use of analog sensor technology permits the realization of numerous applications. For instance, the regulated approach to end positions at minimum cost, the realization of several switch points with a single device, monitoring concentricity or the detection of vibrations. The switches are available with output voltage ranges of 0 … 5 V or 0 … 10 V. As a result of the non-linearized transfer function, the Contrinex devices are inexpensive but nevertheless efficient. Contrinex inductive analog sensors are also available in sizes M12, M18 and M30. |

| There has always been an industrial demand for small and reliable proximity switches with very long operating distances. Thanks to the CONDIST® technology, developed and patented by the innovative Swiss company CONTRINEX, inductive proximity switches with quadruple operating distance have been launched onto the market. These switches guarantee all functionalities with operating temperatures of -25 °C ... +70 °C. They are manufactured according to the strictest quality standards, and present the user with a wide range of technically interesting and economically advantageous application possibilities. Largely compatible with standard proximity switches, they are particularly suitable for targets which are normally difficult to detect, such as small or narrow objects, non-ferrous metals, wires, etc.. The range includes N.O. and N.C. types, PNP or NPN executions, as cable or connector versions. Available in sizes M8 and M12, the devices are quasi embeddable, and contain all important protection functions, such as short-circuit protection, EMC and polarity-reversal protection. |

The new SMAT continuously detects the position of the cylinder piston within a range of 50 mm. It has an analogue output with an output signal in proportion to the piston position. The integrated OOR (out-of-range) sensor indicates if the piston is outside the sensing range. The connection for evaluating the 0 … 10 V and/or the 4 … 20 mA signal is made directly to analogue inputs.

The RACO path-sensory system has been specially designed for exactly positioning and switching off electro-magnetic actuators in the final position. Not only is the position ascertained unconventionally by electro-magnetic means (e.g., gear-shifting mechanism) while doing so but it will also be determined via a close-coupled magnetic field without any movement.
The EPS consists of a printed circuit board and a magnetic holder with the magnet. The electronic positioning sensor (EPS) is integrated into the device%u2019s supplementary casing (A) on the motor shaft's end of the servo-motor or in the device's supplementary box (D) on the coupling casing. The installation, commissioning (starting up), maintenance (servicing) and upgrading is simplified in comparison with a conventional design that has mechanical limit switches and a shift transmission which must be adjusted individually.

trapped in a glass bulb together with inerted gas, are easily influenced by
magnetic fields that create magnetic induction, opposite polarization.

In all automated processes the use of sensors to provide information for the plc is of prime importance. Sensors supply the necessary signals on positions, end stops, levels or serve as pulse transmitters for counting jobs or for monitoring rotational speed. In industrial usage inductive and capacitive proximity switches are indispensable.
