On October 29, 2007, Vitesse announced that the sale of a portion of its Storage Products Business to Maxim Integrated Products, a leading international supplier of quality analog and mixed-signal products, is complete. The sale includes Vitesse's SAS and SATA expander product segments, enclosure management devices and certain other assets. Toshiba Storage Device Division introduces the 200GB 2.5-inch HDD, MK2035GSS. This drive is based on Perpendicular Magnetic Recording technology and has a capacity of 200 GB of data, the largest capacity of its class, using only 2 platters.
The MK2035GSS is currently the only 200 GB Hard Disk Drive available on the market with a height of only 9.5 mm. It weights only 98 grams and features lower power consumption compared to the traditional 3.5-inch HDDs.
This new drive features the Tunneling Magneto Resistive (TMR) head technology, rather than Giant Magneto Resistive (GMR) head technology.
