The AVSPro automatic sampler is a fully automated measuring instrument for determining the viscosity of Newtonian fluids with capillary viscometers.
In spite of the high sample throughput, the AVSPro provides maximum accuracy and reproducibility and even allows unsupervised 24-hour operation.
The AVSPro automatic sampler works with the capillary method, which is the most precise method for determining the viscosity of Newtonian liquids in terms of physical chemistry. The great versatility offered by viscometers with optical and TC sensing systems opens up an extremely wide range of applications. This includes measurements of clear liquids as well as opaque petroleum products.
The main feature of the automatic unit is the three-axis positioning mechanism of the sample dosing system. The new X-Y-Z positioning mechanism allows parallel operation of up to eight viscometers in two thermostatic baths, which can be set at two different measurement temperatures.
Because of its large throughput capacity and its functional reliability, which it has demonstrated in the course of continuous practical operations, the AVSPro has proven itself to be an indispensable instrument for day-today utilization, particularly in the petroleum and plastics industries.

The viscosity of Newtonian fluids can be most precisely determined using capillary viscometers. This method of measurement, measures the time taken for a defined quantity of fluid to flow through a capillary with a known diameter and known length. With the industrial production of such precisely calibrated capillary viscometers, we have created the conditions to enable this measuring method to establish itself worldwide as a reliable procedure.
With the development of the first automatic measuring systems, we replaced the stopwatch with automatic registration of the fluid at the start of the 1970’s. Since then, subjective measuring errors have been a thing of the past.

Robotic Rheometry
The High Throughput Rheometer HTR 301 from Anton Paar
is an innovation landmark: the modern principles of highthroughput screening brought to full function on the everefficient
MCR 301 rheometer package.
The basic MCR 301 setup remains as modular and
customizable as ever - with the difference that HTR 301 now
performs all measuring steps automatically, operated by a
robot. In its standard setup, it processes 96 samples in a
single run - working for up to 24 hours a day. Laboratory staff
is virtually given back the entire working day.
Measurements are performed with concentric cylinder as well
as with cone-and-plate and parallel-plate geometries - an
absolute novelty in automated rheometry.
Anton Paar's High Throughput Rheometer sounds like the
future - because it is. And it is here to stay: Designed to
withstand the demands of continuous operation, it will still be
in perfect condition long after your investment has paid off.

HDT/VicatPlus Tester
The Davenport HDT/VICATPlus is designed to determine the temperature of deflection of thermoplastic samples in accordance with both national and international standards.
The unit consists of a temperature controlled oil bath, with up to six testing stations, each of which may be configured for either HDT or VICAT test methods. The weight loading mechanism and test fixture mountings are designed as a single unit, which is lowered and raised in to the oil bath by electric motor under software control. The design of this assembly includes extensive safety features. The bath is closed off in the lower and upper positions, the oil surface only being exposed when the assembly is in motion. A nitrogen safety blanket is also fitted as standard. The unit functions as an independent unit, or can be PC controlled using NEXYGEN" software for the HDT/VICATPlus, Lloyd Instruments' advanced test and results analysis package.

The Davenport PETPlus from Lloyd Instruments is a unique test instrument designed for the safe solvent-free intrinsic viscosity (IV) measurement of
moisture-sensitive PET. It can be operated in stand alone mode or with our powerful data analysis software package NEXYGENPlus PET.
Most IV test instruments use the solvent method. However, not only is this method expensive, but also involves the handling and disposal of toxic solvents. The PETPlus instrument by contrast offers significant cost and environmental benefits using a non-solvent method, which is kinder to the environment, and saves on the high cost of purchase and disposal of solvents.
Unlike other IV measurement instruments, the PETPlus can test polymers at virtually all stages of the process: from incoming resin, powder and granules, molten polymer, preforms, PET bottles and even re-ground material.
Tests can be completed in under 20 minutes. Rapid testing can be carried out using ancillary equipment for controlled sample collection and preparation.
The microprocessor controlled system provides high accuracy measurements, temp. control to ±0.1°C and storage of up to 600 results. An LCD displays multi-lingual instructions for the test as well as the results. An RS232 interface allows connection to a PC for fully automated software control and downloading of results.
Molten PET is extruded through a calibrated die by nitrogen gas under pressure and the LVDT probe movement against time is recorded and displayed. The system measures the optimum flow rate and calculates intrinsic viscosity. The PETPlus also measures the degradation factor and provides the mean and standard deviation for the batch.

The new Sine-wave Vibro Viscometer, the SV-A Series, is a solution to the excessive use of expensive sample fluids during viscosity measurements. This new viscometer can perform viscosity measurements with sample liquid as small as 2ml (SV-1A).
The SV-A Series incorporates the tuning-fork vibration method. Unlike a rotational viscometer, which requires several different rotors to cover a wide range of measurements, the tuning-fork vibration viscometer is capable of using the same, fixed sensor plates to perform continuous measurements from very low to high viscosity [SV-1A: 0.3~1000mPa•s (cP), SV-10A: 0.3~10000mPa•s (cP), SV-100A: 1000~100000mPa•s (cP)].
The SV-A Series has a temperature sensor (0 ~ 160˚C) right next to the viscosity sensor plates: it is widely known that viscosity is temperature dependent (−2 ~ −10%/˚C) and this feature enables users to easily monitor the relationship between viscosity and temperature. In addition, the SV-A Series also comes standard with the Windows Communication Tools, WinCT-Viscosity that receives viscosity and temperature data from the SV-A Series and creates a graph on a PC in real time. Consequently, changes in viscosity and temperature over time as well as the correlation between viscosity and temperature can be observed visually.
Furthermore, the SV-A Series features a super-fast measurement speed (the initial viscosity coefficient is indicated just 15 seconds after starting the measurement), very high accuracy (repeatability is only 1% of the reading), and a simplified calibration function (a one-key operation that utilizes purified water), etc.
Please see the Users Handbook for the SV Series for further details.
