Butyl rubber is a copolymer or isobutylene and a small percentage of isoprene and has a very low permeability to air and other gases. It has excellent resistance to ozone, oxidation and sunlight, with an excellent temperature range of -45° C to + 130° C. Butyl has a very low resilience which makes it ideal for vibration damping and shock absorption applications but offer a moderate resistance to abrasion and compression set. With careful compounding, Butyl compound can be made to acquire really good tensile strength. It is resistant to most inorganic products and highly resistant to mineral acids, alkalines and aqueous acids. We do not recommend its use in applications where resistance to oils and Hydrocarbons is required.

Exel Composites specializes in developing and designing customer-tailored products in close co-operation with our customers, optimizing best balance of strength, stiffness, weight and cost. Exel has also a wide range of standard profile shapes available. They are always produced against orders and typically the minimum production quantity is between 200 and 2000 meters, depending on the shape, size and the material chosen.
Exel designs and produces composites profiles from simple rods to the most challenging solutions, including custom fabrication and installation. In order to design the final product right, it is necessary to take into account the environment where the product will be used. E.g. the chemical durability of a product can be substantially improved by changing the matrix material. The choice of materials depends on factors such as loads, electrical properties or weather resistance, e.g. UV shielding. Composite profiles are electrically non-conducting and have good corrosion resistance. Also the strength-to-weight ratio is excellent compared with traditional material. The weight of a glass-fibre reinforced product is about one quarter of the weight of a comparable steel product.
The production methods used by Exel are pultrusion, pull-winding, co-winding, continous lamination and pre-preg moulding. In continuous processes impregnated reinforcement fibres are drawn through a heated nozzle serving as a mould. The product cures into its final shape and the resin hardens in the mould.
Exel quality and environment policy complies with the requirements of the standards ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 (Bureau Veritas Certification).

The KROSGLASS S.A. Company manufactures polyester sections reinforced with glass roving by using continuous (pulltrusion) method. This method is usable for manufacture of sections with various shapes - round bars, flat bars, angle bars, tee bars, and wedges. Sections are manufactured by continuous impregnation of soft roving skeins with resin, then forming the shape, curing the resin and cutting the sections into lengths. The content of glass in the form of parallel roving skeins is high, typically reaching 65.5 - 75% (mass) depending upon the type of raw materials and process parameters. Therefore such sections feature with very high strength in longitudinal direction.

WACOSIT® profiles are realised by the "Pultrusion method". Reinforcing fibres are impregnated with synthetic resins and cured continuously in a heated mould.
Besides glass fibres, WACOSIT® profiles can be strengthened by carbon fibres or by aramide fibres. Variants of these are also available to best meet the differing requirements.
Thus for example, there are also the R, S and T types of glass fibres available. These are characterised by better mechanical properties over the more commonly used E type of glass fibre. Alongside rovings, there are also other fabric structures such as tapes and warp-knit complexes which are also used in engineering WACOSIT® profiles.
Tools are available for selection from more than 5000 pultruded WACOSIT® profiles, the exact dimensions for which can be taken from the applicable WACOSIT® profile list. We will of course customise a profile to your specifications.

The Exel pull-winding, co-winding and prepreg wrapping techniques enables the manufacture of high-performance composite tubes while optimizing the structure and minimizing the use of raw material. The wide range of Exel tubes from 3mm to 300mm diameter, together with suitable wall thickness, different types of reinforcement and resins allow you to have an optimized product according to your needs.
The choice of reinforcing materials is determined by the technical demands, such as weight, stiffness and strength, and its ability to insulate heat and electricity. Glass fibre is a widely used reinforcing material that gives the product the following properties: light weight, durability, stiffness and is readily pigmented. Carbon fibre enables the manufacture of even lighter and stiffer tube. It should be noted that carbon fibre conducts electricity. Although carbon fibre tubes are black, they can be coloured by introducing a glass fibre surface layer. A hybrid is a product that combines more than one material. It is thus possible to optimize lightness, stiffness, strength and costs.
Tubes usually have a non-wowen surface, and the surface resin is pigmented throughout. The pigment can be selected from numerous standard colours, for instance, according to the RAL or PANTONE colour codes. If requested, the colour can be made to the customer’s requirements. Tubes may also be given a spiral surface. The customer’s name or some other information may be printed on the tube surface.
Exel quality and environment policy complies with the requirements of the standards ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 (Bureau Veritas Certification).

Round pipes of the company h.hiendl GmbH & CO. Kg
Hiendl of round pipes are made from natural fiber strengthened composite materials of the Hiendl NFC® of material system as well as of purely synthetic thermoplastics (polypropylene, polyethylene, ABS, PVC, PP). The selection of the material is determined in each case by the characteristics, which are optimal for application. The universal products of Hiendl NFC® and of conventional plastics are manufactured for the construction industry, the interior fittings, the laboratory, charge, measurement and the furniture making. With Hiendl NFC® the fossil raw materials common with plastics are replaced to substantial portions by regenerating raw materials. This reduces the load of the atmosphere by CO2-Emissionen. In the comparison e.g. to aluminum - also this material can be replaced by Hiendl NFC® - consumption at primary energy is considerably smaller in the production and processing.

Thermal Clad Insulated Metal Substrate was developed by Bergquist as a thermal management solution for today's higher watt-density surface mount applications where die size is reduced and heat issues are a major concern. Thermal Clad substrates minimize thermal impedance and conduct heat more effectively and efficiently than standard PWB's. These substrates are more mechanically robust than thick-film ceramics and direct bond copper constructions that are often used in these applications.

KREMPEL plastic sheets and moulded parts are produced from our own prepregs using multi-level plate presses and moulding presses, in autoclaves or on vacuum tables. This makes it possible to guarantee an extremely high standard for the quality and to meet even the most stringent customer requirements.
The main reason for this is because we manufacture the starting materials ourselves within the KREMPEL-GROUP and hence can control the properties of our boards and mouldings right from the very beginning.

LIGHT WEIGHT
Nature provides the geometry, we provide the honeycomb composite material. Nida-Core is extruded from tough, versatile polypropylene plastic. (Other materials are available). Thermo fused to the honeycomb cells are non-woven polyester bonding scrims with a polypropylene barrier film to limit resin consumption. When encapsulated in a laminate it is recognized by the US Coast Guard as a primary flotation material in small boats.
ROT PROOF
PVC and SAN Foams are attacked by styrene and absorb water when exposed, plywood and balsa rot or lose strength when wet. Nida-Core does NOT rot and is unaffected by most solvents and chemical agents. Additionally, when encapsulated in a laminate using a non-aqueous resin the scrim forms a seal limiting water migration through the structure, even if skin is punctured.
EXCELLENT BOND
The cell walls are fused into the non-woven polyester scrim. That coupled with the scrim's affinity for virtually any resin or adhesive system provides exceptional bond and peel strength.
IMPACT RESISTANCE
There are many cores that can make a light, stiff structure. Nida-Core, however, combines the light weight and stiffness of honeycomb with tough polypropylene plus superior bonding properties due to the thermo fused scrim. The combination allows Nida-Core to absorb and dissipate impacts and shocks repeatedly that would cause ultimate catastrophic failure in other core materials.
