These negative type hydraulic disk brakes are very important in applications requiring an emergency brake for safety purposes: crane trucks, road vehicles, winches.
Both a modular version for applications on reduction gears and a direct version for orbital hydraulic motors are available. |

Ogura’s multiple disk clutches and brakes come in both a dry or “wet” type. The wet (in oil) type can run approximately 3 times faster than that dry type. This is because the oil helps dissipate heat generated at higher RPMs, but you may find it surprising that the wet type can also produce higher operating torque, both statically and dynamically.
Ogura products are manufactured in Europe, North and South America and Asia. Manufacturing plants are ISO9001, 14001 and TS16949 compliant. Clutches and brakes are RoHS compliant.
UK, European and Scandinavian customers please contact Michel Hehnen at mhehnen@ogura-clutch.com. All other inquiries should go to Jim Andes at jandes@ogura-clutch.com. |

The Model HC or HCD clutches are designed to be used in either an end of shaft or through shaft mounting configuration. Their compact size makes these units ideal for incorporating within a gear housing. Multiple speed transmissions use a variety of these units to effect fixed mesh speed changes, or they may be used as a stand alone device for disconnect service.
All units incorporate provisions for forced oil cooling allowing high energy engagements to be made without causing themal distress within the disc pack. Cooling oil is introduced from an external supply through axial holes provided in the shaft.
Marine main propulsion forward/reverse or disconnect service, winch disconnects, conveyor or mill soft-starts, and multi-speed transmissions are but a few of the applications for the model HC/HCD oil immersed clutches.

Permanent Magnet Brakes - High Torque
Permanent magnet brakes of the range “High Torque” are mainly used as holding brakes and generate their braking action through a permanent magnetic field. The following functions are fulfilled here: Holding, positioning and emergency stop. The basic characteristics such as high power density, residual free releasing in any installations and backlash free transmission of the braking torque makes them perfectly suitable for the applications in servo motors.

Safety Brake for Elevators - Elevation Line
The ELEVATION LINE is comprised of DC operated spring applied single-disc and double disc brakes which comply with the requirements of the European standard EN 81 (safety requirements to be observed in the construction and installation of elevators). Owing to the patented safety concept, the usual checks concerning the double-circuit system of spring-applied brakes can be omitted during the technical approval of the elevators.
The brake is ideally suited for use in space restricted environments where compact systems comprising of a motor, gearbox and brake are required. The ELEVATION LINE is preferably used in the field of elevator construction, but it is also ideal for other applications characterised by stringent requirements in terms of brake safety.

Twiflex VMS-DP Mill Brake Stand. One of four units supplied to Metso Minerals for use at the Telfer Mine, Australia. The two units combined produce 16Million NM of brake torque!
The VMS-DP Mill Brake brakes will be installed on SAG (semi-autogenous grinding) Mills used for the extraction of copper and gold from virgin rock. Fresh ore is continually conveyed into the mills that are pre-charged with various sizes of steel balls, crushing the rock when the mill rotates. The ore is crushed until small enough to pass through the openings in the discharge grates. The material is then conveyed to a secondary Ball Mill for fine grinding.
The brakes which are used for emer-gency stopping and holding have been designed specifically for this application and will be the largest that Twiflex has ever manufactured. The VMS-DP caliper is approximately the size of an office desk and weighs approximately 2 metric tonnes. Each brake produces 768kN of braking force, 4-6 calipers provide braking to each mill flange.

The SITEMA Safety Brake type KSP is designed to hold a vertical moved mass in one direction (against gravity). The holding is done on a round shaft. This could be an already existing cylinder rod or a separate rod. The Safety Catcher can also be used to catch the falling load in case of an emergency-stop. The holding force is relatively big in one direction (downwards) and in the other direction (upwards) relatively small.
Safety brakes are already used in the following applications
- vertical or diagonal machine tool axes
- vertical axes of loaders |

| Nexen servo motor brake modules mount between the servo motor and the gear reducer or on the free end of a ball screw spindle. Nexen offers a wide range of sizes and flanges to fit any brand of motor. These zero backlash brake modules are ideal as redundant safety brakes for z-axis applications or to stop high inertia systems from coasting after a power interruption. The spring applied brakes offer high holding torques and short emergency stopping distances. |
