Winch, Crane and Marine Products
Series 66H Pressure Applied Multi-Disc Clutch
These clutches are widely used in Marine Applications, and are designed for use in oil. The pressure supply is fed axially along the mounting shaft and radially outwards through the clutch hub into the cylinder. Positive disengagement is achieved by the use of release springs between the inner plates.
66H Features
* Clutch does not require adjustment
* Torques can be varied by regulating supply pressure
* Bearing-free design eliminates bearing life considerations
* Speed of engagement can be controlled by varying pressure supply flow rate
* Individual plate seperation ensures low drag torque
* Large friction area gives extended plate life
* Multi-disc design results in compact, high torque clutch
Series 56P Spring Applied Pressure Released Multi-Disc Brake
These brakes are widely used in Winch and Mining Applications, and are designed for dynamic breaking with oil in the disc-pack chamber, and can also be used dry as holding brakes.
They are engaged by disc-springs and disengaged by a pressure supply to the cylinder which moves the piston axially, compressing the disc springs and releasing the plates. The hub is usually fitted to the end of the shaft whuch is being braked.
56P Features
* Spring-applied, ensuring automatic braking in the event of a power failure
* With all working parts being enclosed, the brake is suitable for external mounting, even in unfavourible environments
* Provision is made for a thorough flow of cooling oil to give greater heat dissipation
* External mounting to shaft ends facilitates retro-fitting to existing machinery

Ortlinghaus multiplate safety clutches are permanently engaged, this condition being maintained by spring pressure. They are able to transmit torque up to a particular, preset level, after which in the case of an overload in the transmission, they are designed, to slip for a limited period of time. They can thus be used to safeguard all types of transmission lines in machines and equipment from overloading and destruction. They have the task of smoothing out high torque peaks, at start ups, and during the operating of a line. This is done by the clutch plates slipping past each other for a short period of time when the desired maximum torque is reached.
The torque at which a clutch starts to slip can be varied, within limits. In this way these clutches safeguard gear wheels, shafts and other drive elements from damage and thus guarantee operational reliability for an extended period of time; in this way they also help to prevent the need for repairs. It must be kept in mind that when the clutch is slipping, frictional heat is produced and released within the set of plates and that the permissible amount of heat is limited. This thermal loading must be kept within the required limit with the aid of a slip monitoring device, which would switch off the drive. This is necessary with fast running drives where the critical amount of heat is reached very rapidly when slipping commences.

Hilliard MT Overrunning Clutches combine high torque, high speed capabilities, easy field repair and low cost – all in a compact size. With most overrunning clutches, shaft size is a major consideration. Hilliard’s new roller ramp design allows for greater shaft sizes than comparable size clutches offered by other clutch manufacturers. The assembly features the cam surface precision machined within the housing instead of the inner member, giving it the ability to reach much higher overrunning speeds and to attain greater torque in a much smaller space.
Typical applications include general backstopping and overrunning, such as suspended conveyors, indexing or ratcheting, and gear boxes.
Features:
• Flexible packaging as a clutch or clutch coupling
• Increased torque
• Compact design
• Increased shaft sizes in same physical-size units
• Custom mechanisms available
• Failure in overrunning mode; does not lock up
Clutches are available in various models from 82 to 43,600 lb.ft. at 1,000,000 cycles. Custom designs and rapid prototyping are available.

Hilliard Bi-Directional overrunning clutches replace expensive shifting and drive train assemblies. These clutches provide positive engagement automatically in either direction.
Manufactured exclusively by The Hilliard Corporation, these unique clutches feature rugged, field-proven components and are easy to service in the field. Because they can overrun in either direction, Hilliard Bi-Directional overrunning clutches are ideal for such functions as bi-directional and dual-source drives.
A specially designed unit was recently used by Polaris Industries to produce the first 4-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicle capable of providing automatic front-wheel drive engagement in both forward or reverse models.
Features:
• Senses driving direction and automatically shifts to
driving or overrunning modes
• Proven roller-ramp design
• Precision-machined components
• Bearing support and alignment of cam to drive shaft as required
Benefits:
• Reliable, durable and long lasting
• Positive engagement
• Automatic disengagement
• Constant drive maintained while engaged

Two-way clutch automatically changes the clutch direction according to the rotating direction of input.
Sprags with symmetrical left and right sections are held in the doubled inside and outside cages, then the clutch unit performs perfect clutching function according to the rotation direction of the torque input.

maxon's compact drives feature controllers, sensors and motors in a modern aluminium casing, which, when combined with existing compatible maxon products, produce robust, space-saving and high power density drive solutions. The new MCD EPOS is a highly dynamic, maintenance-free positioning drive with a fieldbus connection and a maximum 60 watt output.
maxon's compact drives are ideal, in that they take up very little space yet provide excellent functionality. They are also extremely flexible and can be used, for example, in automation, robotics or even for laboratory applications. The MCD EPOS combines a brushless maxon EC motor, a digital encoder MR and a fully digital EPOS positioning controller. Cost-savings have been made thanks to the careful optimisation of components, creating an unrivalled and competitively priced drive that works out slightly cheaper than the price of the individual parts.

Airflex CB element assemblies are used as both clutches and brakes in general power transmission service. The primary feature of the CB design and construction is the Airflex torsional resilient principle made possible by the transmission of power through the side walls of the flexible neoprene and cord actuating tube. This flexibility also permits minor shaft misalignment.

Eddy Current clutches give torque as a function of RPM. The faster you turn the rotor, the more torque. This means by increasing or decreasing the RPM, you can get infinite torque adjustment. Typically, we rate the clutch with a gain factor (k), which is gram millimeters/rpm or Newton meters/rpm and we design the clutch to have an operating "slip rpm" between 1 and 300 rpm.

The electromagnetic Powder Coupling combines the resilience of a fluid coupling with the locked-in stability of a friction clutch. Torque is transmitted by a specially alloyed dry ferromagnetic powder, the apparent viscosity of which may be changed by modulation of the field coil current . The couplings can sustain continuous slip (within their empirically estabilished heat ratings) at a precise and stable torque value, which is determined by excitation level.

Airflex E elements are primarily used as slip clutches or tension brakes; however, they can also be used for general power transmission service. Torque is transmitted from the friction shoes to the element housing through torque bars. Engagement occurs when air expands the actuating tube forcing the friction shoes against the inside diameter of the drum. Release springs assist shoe disengagement and counteracts centrifugal force.
