Hilliard MT Overrunning clutches combine high torque, high speed capabilities, easy field repair and low cost – all in a compact size. With most overrunning clutches, shaft size is a major consideration. Hilliard’s new industrial roller ramp design allows for greater shaft sizes than comparable size clutches offered by other professional clutch manufacturers. The assembly features the cam surface precision machined within the housing instead of the inner member, giving it the ability to reach much higher overrunning speeds and to attain greater torque in a much smaller space.
Typical applications include general backstopping and overrunning, such as suspended conveyors suppliers, indexing or ratcheting, and gear boxes.
Features:
• Flexible packaging as a clutch or clutch coupling
• Increased torque
• Compact design
• Increased shaft sizes in same physical-size units
• Custom mechanisms available
• Failure in overrunning mode; does not lock up
Clutches are available in various models from 82 to 43,600 lb.ft. at 1,000,000 cycles. Custom designs and rapid prototyping are available.

| Posidyne® clutch/brakes transmit torque by shearing automatic transmission fluid between multiple friction discs. The fluid absorbs the heat of engagement and dissipates it through the housing. The recirculating fluid minimizes wear, resulting in exceptionally long service life. Oil-shear operation provides a controllable, cushioned engagement that is smoother, quieter and more accurate than dry friction units. |

Ortlinghaus multiplate safety clutches are permanently engaged, this condition being maintained by spring pressure. They are able to transmit torque up to a particular, preset level, after which in the case of an overload in the transmission, they are designed, to slip for a limited period of time. They can thus be used to safeguard all types of transmission lines in machines and equipment from overloading and destruction. They have the task of smoothing out high torque peaks, at start professional ups, and during the operating of a line. This is done by the industrial clutch plates slipping past each other for a short period of time when the desired maximum torque is reached.
The torque at which a professional clutch starts to slip can be varied, within limits. In this way these clutches safeguard pinion wheels, shafts and other drive elements from damage and thus guarantee operational reliability for an extended period of time; in this way they also help to prevent the need for repairs. It must be kept in mind that when the clutch is slipping, frictional heat is produced and released within the set of plates and that the permissible amount of heat is limited. This thermal loading must be kept within the required limit with the aid of a slip monitoring device, which would switch off the drive. This is necessary with fast running drives where the critical amount of heat is reached very rapidly when slipping commences. |

Their compact size makes these units ideal for incorporating within a gear housing. Multiple speed transmissions use a variety of these units to effect fixed mesh speed changes, or they may be used as a stand alone device for disconnect service.
All units incorporate provisions for forced oil cooling allowing high energy engagements to be made without causing themal distress within the disc pack. Cooling oil is introduced from an external supply through axial holes provided in the shaft.
Marine main propulsion forward/reverse or disconnect service, industrial winch disconnects, conveyor manufacturer or mill soft-starts, and multi-speed transmissions are but a few of the applications for the model HC/HCD oil immersed clutches. |

| ICP manufacture a range of paper / sintered friction and steel intermediate plates. The product range covers most industrial and off highway applications and is produced to high quality standards. Excellent availability and delivery including low volumes for special applications. |
|
This product group includes all plate type friction components for clutches and brakes which possess driving teeth or lugs on their outer or inner diameters. Both plate and counterplate must be considered together, in general one plate with friction material works together with a counterplate of steel or cast iron.
The plates are the important functional element in every professional clutch and brake, and have been developed in many different ways since the early days of clutches and brakes. Ortlinghaus has played an important role in the total development of friction clutches, one example of its contributions being the patented, well known, sprung steel plate, known world-wide under the trademark 'Sinus'. The use for the first time of sintered plates in clutches, was also an important development. In the course of this development every relevant technological step forward - whether in frictional material, mechanical or heat treatment process -has been applied directly to the manufacture of the plates. As a result Ortlinghaus plates today contain the results of nearly one hundred years of research and development and represent a highly specialised component.
Supported by the experience gained over this long period of time, Ortlinghaus is today, able to provide a very comprehensive range of clutch and brake plates in a multitude of different dimensions, friction combinations and surface patterns. The number of standard plates listed in our catalogue is large and most of these are available ex stock, satisfying most of our customer requirement from this well proven range. Our customers benefit from quick availability angood price arrived at from volume production. Should it not be possible to solve a particular design problem with these plates, as listed in our catalogue, we are always ready to manufacture plates to meet specific customer wishes. In this area too our experience is extensive, every requirement can be satisfied with the aid of the most modern manufacturing techniques forms of oil channels.
