Posidyne® clutch/brakes transmit torque by shearing automatic transmission fluid between multiple friction discs. The fluid absorbs the heat of engagement and dissipates it through the housing. The recirculating fluid minimizes wear, resulting in exceptionally long service life. Oil-shear operation provides a controllable, cushioned engagement that is smoother, quieter and more accurate than dry friction units.

Operating Features
The Wichita Kopper Kool airtube disc
Clutches and Brakes are liquid cooled
and consist of a series of alternating
discs connecting an inner drive member
to an outer drive member. Engagement
is achieved by pneumatic expansion of
the airtube. This air-operated clutch
contains copper discs for excellent heat
dissipation and provides an accurately
controlled continuous slip action.
Braking torque is in direct proportion to
the air pressure applied.
The high level of heat dissipation makes
Kopper Kool Brakes ideal for
dynamometer applications and high
speed web tension control duties when
used with a suitable closed loop control
system such as the Wichita MCS2000
range of controllers.

The Airflex CBC unit combines an air actuated disc clutch and spring- applied disc brake into a compact package, which can be readily adapted to new or existing flywheel drives. Designed primarily for high cyclic punch press service, the unit has been applied on a wide variety of high speed, high cyclic applications.

The Model HC or HCD clutches are designed to be used in either an end of shaft or through shaft mounting configuration. Their compact size makes these units ideal for incorporating within a gear housing. Multiple speed transmissions use a variety of these units to effect fixed mesh speed changes, or they may be used as a stand alone device for disconnect service.
All units incorporate provisions for forced oil cooling allowing high energy engagements to be made without causing themal distress within the disc pack. Cooling oil is introduced from an external supply through axial holes provided in the shaft.
Marine main propulsion forward/reverse or disconnect service, winch disconnects, conveyor or mill soft-starts, and multi-speed transmissions are but a few of the applications for the model HC/HCD oil immersed clutches.

Airflex FSPA packages feature drum type CB or VC air applied clutches fastened to standard bearing-mounted flywheels. These clutch/flywheel assemblies are then combined with drum type CS and CTE or disc type DBA spring-applied, air released brakes. Although designed primarily for punch press use, they have found application on all types of cyclic equipment. Airflex press controls feature two independent circuits electrically interlocked and monitored to provide two-hand protection.

Ogura’s multiple disk clutches and brakes come in both a dry or “wet” type. The wet (in oil) type can run approximately 3 times faster than that dry type. This is because the oil helps dissipate heat generated at higher RPMs, but you may find it surprising that the wet type can also produce higher operating torque, both statically and dynamically.
Ogura products are manufactured in Europe, North and South America and Asia. Manufacturing plants are ISO9001, 14001 and TS16949 compliant. Clutches and brakes are RoHS compliant.
UK, European and Scandinavian customers please contact Michel Hehnen at mhehnen@ogura-clutch.com. All other inquiries should go to Jim Andes at jandes@ogura-clutch.com.

The Wichtia Air-Tube Disc Clutch combines all the best features of the disc type clutch with all the advantages of the direct air engagement. The simplest and most trouble-free method of applying air pressure is through direct axial pressure application by compressed air in a special composition full-circle tube.
Wichita Clutches engage smoothly without noise, shock or impact and release completely in a fraction of a second. Extremely fast action is possible because of the small volume of air required.

Uniform Load Distribution
No Loose Parts
No Backlash
Long Service Life
Superior Roller Design

Design Features
- In-Line power applications.
- Smooth controlled engagement.
- Unaffected by centrifugal force.
All Wichita Marine Clutch units are
custom built to satisfy marine
classification society requirements.
The Wichita Standard Ventilated Clutch
is usually used in combination with
recognised flexible couplings to provide
reliable in-line power
transmission. The simple air-tube
design, with minimum air volume and
high engagement and disengagement
speeds, is unaffected by centrifugal
force and has no self-energisation like
drum clutch designs.
Ideally suited for high inertia loads such
as main propulsion drives where
smooth controlled starts are needed.
