Lovejoy's S-Flex coupling design is simple, ensuring ease of assembly and reliable performance. No special tools are needed for installation or removal. S–Flex couplings can be used in a wide variety of applications.
Its design is comprised of three parts. Two flanges with internal teeth engage an elastomeric flexible sleeve with external teeth. Each flange is attached to the respective shaft of the driver and driven and torque is transmitted across the flanges through the sleeve. Misalignment and torsional shock loads are absorbed by shear deflection in the sleeve.
In all designs, pre-molded teeth along the diameter of the sleeve engage with teeth of the coupling flanges. No clamps or screws are needed to connect the flanges with the flexible sleeve which securely lock together under torque for smooth transmission of power. All three sleeve materials are highly elastic which permits the S–Flex coupling to protect connected equipment from harmful shock loading, vibration, and shaft misalignment.
The S–Flex coupling from Lovejoy offers combinations of flanges and
sleeves which can be assembled to suit your specific application. Thirteen
sizes are available with torque capabilities that range from 60 in-lb to
72,480 in-lb.

The UNE-FLEX coupling eliminates all alignment defects. Its ability to achieve multiple displacements surpasses more complex coupling mechanisms, and, nonetheless it operates with the simplicity and safety of a modern rubber tyre.
This new coupling has been made possible by the technological advances that have contributed to the wonders of present day rubber tyres, designed to carry huge loads at high speeds and to withstand tremendous impacts.
The fundamental element of the UNE-FLEX coupling is a rubber tyre reinforced with a synthetic mesh. It alone adapts itself to the working conditions, absorbing all axial, lateral angular and torsional misalignments and preventing the transmission of vibrations to the machines to which they are coupled. It compensates the defect of angular misalignments to 3º, lateral misalignment 4 mm, and axial misalignment 6mm.
The UNE-Flex couplings cushions the effects of overloading. It absorbs the vibrations, thus lessening noise and protecting the machine from the destructive effects of vibration.
There is no metal to metal contact between the axles and the hubs are completely isolated. No lubrication needed. Replacement: Easy and practical. There is no need to move neither the motor nor the machine: it is sufficient to release the lateral washers, thus freeing the coupling. |

Precision motion control applications require mechanically tight systems, especially between motors, driven loads, and feedback devices, to ensure accurate positioning. Such systems often require shaft couplings that are both torsionally rigid, to accurately transmit rotational position and laterally flexible to accommodate shaft misalignment.
Servometer couplings exhibit both low windup due to the bellows' radial rigidity, and low side thrust due to the bellows' lateral flexibility. Other coupling types have either low windup or low side thrust, but not both.
Since the flexible element is a bellows, the coupling can absorb parallel shaft misalignments of 0.068 in., angular misalignments as large as 31°, or axial movements of 0.230 in. while transmitting torque. Servometer's stock lines of flexible shaft couplings are available with stainless steel hub bore diameters ranging from .079 in. (2 mm) to 1.0 in. (25.4 mm), and with torque capabilities ranging from 2.0 in-oz (1.4 N-cm) to 4000 in-oz (2825 N-cm). Outside diameters range from 0.250 in. (6.35 mm) to 2.40 in. (61 mm) and overall lengths from 0.480 in. (12.19 mm) to 2.16 in. (54.9 mm). Specialized dynamic requirements can be custom designed to fit customer specifications.
Some unique characteristics of Servometer bellows-type flexible shaft couplings are:
- Extremely low elastic windup
- Zero backlash
- Zero cyclic speed variation during 360° rotation
- Minimal side loading
Typical applications include:
- Encoders
- Resolvers
- Servos
- Motion control instrumentation
- Robotics
- CNC machine tools
- Precision positioning |

| The fin-couplings DINAL., belonging to series "GEL" are usually used for the connection of tachogenerators, encoders, contactors, motors, measuring instruments and for every application where a constant rotational velocity in the four qua-drants is required and where an absolute torque rigidity is required, even when the shafts coupling is not perfectly lined up. Projected according to DIN 740, these couplings can bear angular, radial and axial misalignments, without causing stress on the connected shafts, thanks to their peculiar construction. Their special construction and the used materials allow to use them within a tem-perature of - 30 °C + 200 °C. |

David Brown has a range of Flexible Coupling solutions to meet our Customer’s requirements for integration into our gearboxes or to supply on a replacement basis.
Flexible couplings are devices used to connect two shafts together so that power can be transmitted the type of coupling needed depends on the power transmitted. The main aims of couplings are to Connect Gearboxes to motors or gearboxes to a Customer’s Application. David Brown couplings are easy to connect and disconnect and transmit the full power from one shaft to another and are able to compensate for all types of Shaft Misalignment. |
