Back in 1992, Kappa was one of the first camera manufacturers to offer cooled cameras and today it maintains this tradition with its latest generation of Peltier-cooled sensors. The major difference between back then and today is that nowadays thermo-electrical systems have replaced coolants as a means of generating the desired differences in temperature.
The cooling element allows for sensor temperatures of -10 °C at ambient temperatures of up to +30°C, thus enabling exposure times of several minutes while maintaining good dynamic performance. In fluorescent microscopy applications this helps to visualize structures which would be almost invisible even to the well-adapted eye.
In addition to thermal noise, readout noise and electronic noise also have a negative impact on signal quality. To help reduce readout noise Kappa cameras can be read out with a reduced clock rate. Electronic noise is kept at bay by using high-quality components and employing sophisticated circuitry. However, as a general rule, in order to reduce the negative influence of noise it is advisable to keep electronic enhancement at a minimum. Kappa cooled cameras are also available as signature versions. |

OEM Solutions
When it comes to integrating vision or optical measurement capabilities into one's original equipment, picking separate components on the sole consideration of their state-of-the-art specifications doesn't make it right every time. When it makes it. What is of utmost importance, rather, is the supplier's skills in sorting out the very requirements that govern the final system performance and customizing the right solution for the right cost.
We specializes in supplying industry OEMs with specific solutions that exactly meet their exact vision or optical application requirements.
Here is one example of customization and application-specific solution
a compact, high sensitivity linescan camera used in sorting applications. |

| Thanks to its 400 MHz (3,200 MIPS) DSP, the VCLine scan Smart Camera from Vision Components is one of the fastest intelligent cameras on the market. The device supports three integration modes: the free-running mode enables a scan rate of 11 kHz. With a constant integration time, the camera can be triggered externally at a maximum scan rate of 5,5 kHz. A third mode allows for a variable integration time which is determined by external triggering, reaching a maximum scan rate of 11 kHz. The Smart Camera comes equipped with 32 MB DRAM and 4 MB Flash EPROM for program and data storage. It features both an Ethernet and a RS232 interface as well as four digital PLC inputs and four outputs, an image trigger input and a flash trigger output. Due to its small dimensions (90 x 50 x 35 mm), the VCLine can be easily integrated into machines and plants. Like all other Smart Cameras from Vision Components, it is especially suited for use in rugged industrial environments – due to its compact and robust housing, it withstands vibrations and shocks. |

Ranger - The fastest camera in the world for three dimensional shape measurement!
The Ranger camera measures 3D features at unmatched speed producing a complete data set of the object measured. Providing a 3rd dimension adds height and shape measurement data, which can be critical when correctly classifying an object. Ranger is the key component in many market leading in-line inspection machines used in the Electronic, Semicon, Wood, Robot Vision, Plastic, Rubber and Food industries.
The Ranger acquires up to 35,000 profiles per second, each containing up to 1536 high quality 3D coordinates. This is more than 45 million 3D points per second!
The complete 3D calculation is done inside the camera and the ready-to-use 3D coordinates are sent directly to a standard PC via CameraLink or Gigabit Ethernet. This eliminates the need for expensive post processors.
