The single stage, reciprocating compressors create a low-pressure area in the pumping chamber when the piston moves from the highest point of the stroke to the lowest point. Gaseous product (at a higher pressure in the tank) moves into the pumping chamber. This volume of gas is then displaced when the piston moves to the top of the stroke. Equipped with high efficiency valves, ductile iron pistons, self-adjusting piston rod seals and other robust features, these compressors are designed to provide maximum performance and reliability under the most severe service conditions.

International shipping with its most stringent requirements for quality and reliability is Sauer's traditional field of activities. Our starting-air and working-air compressors have proven to be reliable in this demanding market. They count among the most modern and most economic compressors available today. In particular the 3-stage air-cooled starting-air compressors - in comparison to the traditionally used 2-stage water-cooled compressors - contribute significantly to modern ship operation concepts. With these products Sauer became one of the leading manufacturers of compressors for shipping and off-shore technology world-wide.

The Laby® compressor represents unbeatable reliability and availability, thanks to its unique labyrinth sealing system on piston and piston rod gland that allows oil free and contact-free compression. The result is an extended meantime between overhaul, that has a positive impact on reliability and operating cost.
Neither contamination of the gas by abraded material from piston rings nor hot spots from friction occur. The Laby® is designed to compress bone-dry, dirty, abrasive and other gases. The gastight casing reduces gas emission and losses to the environment to zero. The Laby® compressor easily manages the compression of LNG boil-off gas at suction temperatures down to minus 160°C (minus 250 F).

'H' series compressors are used for Air or Nitrogen compression. Each compressor is an air-cooled, single acting, three or four stage-reciprocating piston compressor with the combination of oil pressure fed crankshaft bearings, and cylinder oil splash with regulated injection for the final high-pressure piston plunger design.
Performance with inert gases, such as Nitrogen, ranges from 10 to 150 Nm^3/h within a final pressure range of 100 to 350 bar including the Sauer unique NitroFlex integrated 'all-in-one' - Compressor, generator and gas booster.
