Numbering machines: Basis of the numbering machines in such a numbering system is a two-unit construction. The upper unit, containing the mechanical moving parts, can be seperated easily from the unit containing the electronic parts by loosening only two screws.
This concept has a lot of advantages in terms of handling and maintenance:
- The mechanical unit with the moving parts can be handled, cleaned and maintained in the same way as conventional mechanical numbering machines.
- The second unit, containing the sensor electronics, stays on the press as no cleaning and regular maintenance is required.
- After re-connecting the upper mechanical unit no new positioning is required, all machines are in the proper location (no move of lower adaptor unit).
- The numbering machines are equipped with a pre-inking system.
- The non-automatic wheels are locked by means of a spring loaded pin; to turn the wheels one has to push the pin, after releasing it again the wheels are automatically locked.

Matthews was one of the early Pioneers that designed and manufactured industrial quality, offset printers. This term offset printing means that a mark made by ink is transferred from a solid rubber covered roll, commonly referred to as a blanket roll. Offset printers are three roll systems that incorporate an ink roll, type wheel, and blanket roll. The type does not come into contact with the product on an offset system.
This system minimizes the amount of type wear while producing a permanent, consistent quality mark. The Print-A-Mark Offset Printer line, furnished by Matthews are available in 1", 2" and 3" wide roll units. Our standard printers are generally friction driven, obtaining their power from coming into contact with the product causing the product to revolve the printer.
Motor drive package options are available for applications that require an assist to revolve the offset printer. This is sometimes necessary when the product has a small diameter, or too little friction available at the blanket roll contact point.

Function
The unit consists of a servo driven X/Y axle, a rotating application head and a conveyor with positioning mechanism to pick up and place the PCBs. The PCB is transferred by the conveyor into the application area. The X/Y axle moves the application head to the printer, a label is taken and then applied to the PCB. After the application process the PCB is released and then transferred to the following unit.

The PinMark™ handheld embossers are applied when products or components are difficult to move due to their weight or size. The handheld devices also demonstrate their advantages fully in poorly accessible locations. Indent-A-Mark Roll Markers are used in applications where larger characters, longer legends and greater marking force are required. With the proper tooling, roll marking is used to mark on metal products with flat, concave, convex, recessed, round, cylindrical and conical surfaces.
During the marking cycle, a ram travels vertically downward, then across the part to be indented. Each indented character is formed one at a time. A flat die with a dove tail holder is used to mark around the circumference of round parts and a roller die is used to indent on flat parts.

The e8-i61S and e8-i111S scribe marking machines can mark all types of materials, from plastic to hardened steel up to 62 Hrc. The scribing technology produces high quality characters and logos with continuous line style. Noise level operations are extremely low. Deep marking can be achieved (up to 0.7 mm / 0.3).
Scribing is produced by the continuous motion of a diamond or tungsten carbide stylus pin mounted within a pneumatic cylinder.
The e8-i61S and e8-i111S scribing systems are robust and reliable. They are perfectly suited for heavy industrial environment. Stainless steel shutters protect their internal components.

The scribing technology marks permanently, directly on the material, on plastics and the hardest of steels (62 HRC).
The marking content (text, logotypes, traceability variables, time & date) is made by a carbide or diamond point that under pneumatic pressure penetrates the surface the surface to mark. Continuous point displacement is very accurate (steps of 0.025 mm), via an X/Y (X=100 mm et Y=120 mm) crossed mounting plate and operated with a fully-autonomous unit control.
The continuous stroke, very legible, is obtained without consumables or percussion, thus reducing the sound level to less than 72 dBA.
