The Abbe refractometer was the first laboratory refractometer to be invented. It precisely measures the refractive index or the concentration of a sample.
In an Abbe refractometer, the sample is placed between two prisms. The operator uses a knob to move a reflex surface to the center of a reticle, then reads the result along a graduated scale. Some modern Abbe instruments display results on a digital screen. Since refractive index is temperature-sensitive, Abbe refractometers use a Peltier-effect feature or an external sample bath thermostat to control temperature.
Refractive index or Brix degree and temperature are simultaneously displayed on the LCD readout. Temperature compensation is automatically switchable. Connection to thermostat-control bath available. Results with date/time stamp can be transmitted via serial port to a PC or printer ...
Abbe refractometers are easy to use and only a small sample volume is required. They are well suited for all kinds of samples, no matter if solid, viscous or fluid. Transparency does not affect measurement. Refractive index (nD), dispersion (nf-nC) and concentration (%Brix) can be measured. For ...
