Resolvers are absolute encoders offering a high level of availability, even under extreme conditions. These encoders were developed for the positioning of anti-aircraft guns a good 60 years ago, and are today used in all imaginable applications. MICRONOR resolvers are suitable for use in all extreme conditions where a standard encoder is no longer sufficient, e.g. for speeds of up to 100,000 rpm or in the presence of high levels of radio-activity, at temperatures of -60°C or 280°C, or when exposed to high impact stresses.
Our FE resolver units are available for any absolute multi-turn requirement. We can pair the resolvers in a single unit, in accordance with either the master-slave principle or the Vernier principle.

Absolute Encoders output the rotational angle using an absolute code. The rotational position can be detected by reading the code. This eliminates the need to return to the origin at startup.

Distances, positions and angles - when a precise positioning is required in the area of industrial engineering, an encoder is just unbeatable.
When making distance measurements the resolution of the encoder is in the micrometer range, when making angular measurements it is equivalent to very few thousandth degrees.
In this way machines and components of all kinds can be positioned very precisely.
Absolute, non-contact length measuring systems, wire-draw encoders and compact measuring wheel encoders complete the offer.

Absolute encoders are devices used to measure lengths or angles and are used as distance gauges in machine tools, in handling and automation technology and on testing units.
Absolute encoders
These output positional information in the form of a numerical value (code). This numerical value is unique across the entire resolution range of the absolute encoder. For this reason no initial reference run is required, as is the case with incremental encoders.
With rotary encoders, a distinction is made between single-turn encoders, which provide a resolution on just a single rotation and then revert to 0, and multi-turn encoders that provide a resolution over several rotations. A further distinction is made between optical and magnetic encoders.

|
Absolute encoders have a unique value (voltage, binary count, etc) for each mechanical position. When an absolute encoder is turned on, the position of an absolute encoder is known.

The electronic turn-counting technology used in the new absolute encoders POSI+ makes them very compact: in diameter 58 mm, their length is of only 45 mm. It allows also to design hollow-through shaft encoder, turn counting capabilities up to 16 bits and very high rotation speed. The max. resolution per turn is 524288 positions (19 bits).
Available in SSI and BISS interfaces, the resolution, the codes, high and low range, parity, rest to zero or other value could be programmed. Incremental signals and information about rotation speed and temperature are available.
A SSI to parallel converter built-in a DB37 connector provides parallel interface in the cabinet thus significantly reducing the wiring cost if parallel output is required.
The POSI+ encoders are available with solid shaft of 6 and 10 mm and hollow through shaft of up to 14 mm. Their excellent electro-magnetic protection allows the use in environment with high noise level.

When the Going Gets Tough -
Rugged, compact, reliable ACURO-XR® Series Encoders –
Now offered with Multiturn Technology
Encoders of the new ACURO-XR® series are your reliable partners for applications under harsh operating conditions. They are capable of withstanding highest acceleration rates, mechanical stresses, extreme climatic fluctuations and even underwater operating conditions.
The ACURO-XR® series is characterized by an extraordinarily rugged mechanical design, highest reliability and a long useful life. Its highly robust enclosure and generously dimensioned bearing easily cope with high axial and radial forces up to 300N. The PCB with its evaluation electronics, sensor asic and electronic multiturn features multiple fastening and protection against humidity, corrosion and contact breakage. Extremely high shock accelerations up to 2,000 m/s² and vibrations up to 200 m/s² are no problem for ACURO-XR®.
A high-grade sealing concept protects the encoder against penetrating liquids (IP69k). 12-bit resolution is achieved within one turn, and the encoder is equipped with new, electronic multiturn technology to detect and output the number of turns. It works fully energy-independent, without any gears and contacts, without any moving parts, and without battery.
The max. multiturn resolution has been increased to 24 bits.
ACURO-XR® is accommodated in a compact 58-mm industrial-standard enclosure and excels by its extremely small installation depth of only
32 mm. Its wide temperature range reaching from -40 to +100 °C makes it suitable for a virtually unlimited field of applications.

Ever since 1992 TWK encoders are being used for the pitch control of wind energy engines. The position of each rotor blade which has to be adjusted according to the wind intensity and the wind direction is monitored by an electro-optical absolute encoder. The device features a resolution of 12 bits and a serial SSI output interface. The specific item with a 65 mm diameter housing has been chosen with regard to the robust shaft and bearing construction to withstand axial and radial loads up to 250 N, for its IP 66 protection grade and with respect to the long life layout of the electronic circuitry.
A few years ago new electro-magnetic encoders have been developed. They operate with a small permanent magnet which activates an ASIC with integral Hall elements. Various digital and analogue output interfaces are available to comply with special requirements of the user. Several manufacturers of wind engines have already adapted this new type of encoder both with CANopen or voltage output interfaces.
In order to convert the movement of wind vanes into a proportional electrical signal the same electro-magnetic technique has been made available. Whilst the small magnet is directly connected to the shaft of the vane the sensor circuit and the conditioning electronics are settled on a circular pcb. As there is no friction the system works without wear and without any reverse action to the measurement signal. Technical report: PRA 0557).

Model TMN 50 is the world's first digital encoder with a maximum range of 32,768 revolutions (15 Bits). Its resolution ist 13 Bits per 360° which means a total capacity of 28 Bits. Besides the CANopen output data it supplies an additional speed signal. The outstanding performance is achieved by the Hall sensor technology along with a micro-processor and a counter circuit. A reset storage device restores the position value in case the supply voltage is cut off or lowered beyond 12 VDC, provided the shaft is not deflected by more than ± 90° during the interruption of the supply voltage.
The new encoder features a very robust and compact housing of 50 mm diameter and only 54 mm length. It has been designed for heavy duty applications such as cranes, transportation equipment or building machinery. It can also be supplied in stainless steel for use under aggressive ambiant conditions.
