Colour Coded Sound with the CEL-620
Casella CEL has developed a colour-coded display system for sound level meters which simplifies use and reduces the risk of misinterpreting data. The new 620 series of pocket sized meters incorporate a high resolution colour display into the smallest and easiest to use sound level meter on the market.
The colour readout assists the user by displaying results in a simple colour coded format that is impossible to misinterpret. Ease of use has been a key design goal in the development of this instrument, so from simple point and shoot measurements to full industrial hygiene assessments, all measurements can be performed quickly and easily.
The CEL-620 uses digital technology that can measure in a range up to 140dB, dismissing the need for range adjustment and eliminating reading errors which may result. It measures all occupational noise parameters simultaneously; rather than changing the instrument setup you simply change which noise parameters you wish to view knowing that all parameters can be viewed afterwards even if not selected at the time. "The CEL-620 really presents the next generation of workplace sound level meters," said Tim Turney, Product Manager for Casella CEL. "A real-time octave band analyser has never been so compact and yet filled with technology designed to make life easier for the health and safety professional."
The CEL-620 is supplied as a kit in a rugged briefcase, which includes an acoustic calibrator, windshield, software and USB download cable. Instrument and calibrator come with calibration certificates as standard, documenting compliance with the latest IEC 61672 Sound Level Meter standard.

Vib008, Dont let pain take hold!
Directive 2002/44/EC deals with the determination of limits and action values, for the daily exposure to vibration. Two physiological domains are addressed: the hand-arm and the whole-body domains, the acceptable statutory values of which are specified. The experimental protocol, as well as indicators relevant for assessment, is defined in Standards ISO 5349-2 and ISO 2631-1.
01dB-Metravib introduces a new portable instrument Vib008 that perfectly meets the requirements of this statutory application. This metrological instrument connected to a triaxial accelerometer is installed on site. Vib008 integrates a presence detector on the whole-body plate in order to activate subsequently the signal storage. Very simple to use, Vib008 is remotely controlled by the operator using a Pocket PC. This wireless remote control is used to manage measurement configurations (simultaneous whole-body and hand-arm), to start acquisitions (immediate, delayed mode) and to collect measured data for post-processing and archiving purposes, on several instruments at the same time for a best prevention of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI).

Industrial plant such as rotating machinery will generate a vibration signature comprising spectral components associated with specific
primary vibration sources-rotors, bearings, moving parts. These will further excite passive, static elements such that the overall spectrum, although containing information relevant to say, balance, bearing wear, electrical faults, may be difficult to interpret.
Frequency selective measurement provides the means for recovering
meaningful source dependant data buried in wideband signals, and to therefore diagnose the state of specific machine components.

The CEL-300 Series includes the CEL-320/IS and CEL-360/IS dosimeters which can be converted to the CEL-320S/IS and CEL-360S/IS Intrinsically Safe sound level meters by simply exchanging the cable microphone assembly for a traditional stalk microphone and preamplifier. They are the ideal instruments for any form of personal worker surveys when considering the possible risk of hearing loss in the workplace. Conversion to a compact sound level meter enables comprehensive noise measurements to be carried out with the possibility of storage of the results for later recall from memory.

Machine Control MC 1002 is the basic vibration meter for measuring the effective vibration velocity v (rms) according to DIN ISO 10816-3 and the rolling bearing condition gSP according to the shock pulse method.
* Features
o Reliable, easy operation
o Immediately ready for measuring, no settings required
* Applications
o Vibration measurement and vibration checking on machines and machine lines
o Evaluation of rolling bearing condition
o Recognizing critical operational areas
o Early detection of failures
|
|
The backbone of all proactive maintenance is up to date data on the machine status, obtained with two well-tested frontline techniques. Vibration severity monitoring according to ISO standards diagnoses general machine condition. Shock pulse monitoring with the True SPM Method gives early warning of bearing deterioration, the most common cause of machine failures.
Root cause elimination is true preventive maintenance. A poorly aligned and balanced machine wastes much energy and wears itself out. Do not tolerate excessive noise, vibrations and failure rates. Leonova is a state of the art maintenance tool for fast and easy alignment and balancing.
Condition monitoring costs money for equipment, training and labour. With Leonova, you have a free choice of suitable instrument functions and how to pay for their use.

E.A.R and Peltor have also developed a simple sound level indicator that complements the Optime Alert System by establishing which colour code you need to follow.You simply deploy the meter at the employees work station let it run until the display has stabilised, this then indicates the average noise level in that area and the type of protection required. The display indicates the period of time the unit has been active in 1 hour increments up to a maximum of 8 hour working day.The sound check meter must be restarted between measurements. The meter is accurate to 1dB.
