In addition to standard air cleaners with or without cyclone separators, MAHLE also provides customer-specific air filter elements and air filter housings for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Air filter elements of various types are used for filtering the intake air. Metal-free filter cartridges with efficient filter media and high dust holding capacity guarantee dust efficiency of up to 99.9 percent. Although cellulose media have predominantly been used for filtration in the past, MAHLE has meanwhile introduced new developments aimed at achieving higher efficiency and dust holding capacities. To this end, multi-layer filter materials made from cellulose, meltblown and nanofibers as well as completely synthetic non-woven materials have already been optimized for mass production.
New developments - air cleaners with activated carbon adsorbers
Owing to the statutory requirements of the North American market, HC adsorbers in the air intake are necessary for reducing emissions. In response to this, MAHLE has integrated an activated carbon element in its air cleaner modules. Hydrocarbons are therefore adsorbed which can then escape via the intake system when the engine is switched off.

TURBOGLASS
Rigid pocket filter in microfiber of glass.
ll filter TURBOGLASS is constituted from a resistant plastic chassis to the heat, totally riciclabile. The leaking material is in microfiber of idrorepellente glass lacking in cellulose, in class of filtration from F5 to F9. The filter does not introduce to its inside some metallic member, as the assemblage of the chassis and the resistor of the leaking septum concurs to avoid ulterior reinforces. The glue chassis being completely on all sides, with sealing poliuretanico, resistant to acids, is lacking in any by pass of the air. The air crosses alone and exclusively the leaking septum. A gasket in polyurethane completes filter TURBOGLASS.
The leaking septum that it constitutes filter TURBOGLASS is 100% microfiber of glass. The microfiber of glass is folded with a system that allows to obtain a uniform spacing between the folds, for a better leaking efficiency and a better withholding of particles and consequently a greater one I accumulate of the powders. The "Quality Cell" Rigid Cell Filter is built with special plastic separators and heavy gauge metal backing to hold the pleated media stable at any airflow for maximum media utilization. The "Quality Cell" is constructed with polypropylene media and separators to discourage microbial growth and is offered in ASHRAE ratings of 45%, 65%, 85%, and 95% and Odor Ban carbon media.
QualityCell V Cell
The mini pleat "V" construction of the "Quality Cell" V cell incorporates 150 square feet of media in a 24 x 24 x 12 filter. This tremendous amount of media allows for lower pressure drops, longer service life, and high efficiency. The entire frame, media, and media separators are constructed of plastic making "Quality Cell" V cell resistant to moisture damage. PTFE filter elements are produced by sintering pure PTFE granules,no other substances are used in the construction. These filter elements are usually offered when only 100% pure PTFE can be used. It is normally preferable to offer a K type disposable filter element, if suitable, as both pressure drop and life characteristics are superior to the PTFE elements. The advantage of PTFE is a higher maximum temperature, up to 200°C, and somewhat better chemical resistance. These filter elements should be ultrasonically cleaned to give best results.
