Different types of integrated flywheel starter generators and integrated flywheel generators, which are intended for integration in internal combustion engines and for the use in the electric systems, where high consumption of electric energy occurs.
These starter generators and generators are designed to be built in the flywheel housing on the engine between the engine and the gearbox and replace classic alternator and starter motor on the engine.

The system consists of a permanent magnet generator and a single phase inverter to be applied to a generating set (with a gasoline engine)
As the application is in the domestic field, the stability and the quality of the generated voltage must grant the correct working and safety of electronic devices, computers, household appliances, etc.
Our aim is to realize a control system that grants a consistent inverter’s output voltage in presence of load variations. By, also, optimizing the engine performances adapting the speed in function of the output load. The fuel consumption and noise are dramatically reduced.
The generator has been realized with one three phase permanent magnet (NeFeBo) machine in order to obtain an high power density and reduced volumes; the stator’s winding is inside while the rotor runs outside.
For the generator’s dimensions see the table herewith enclosed.
The main inverter’s features are:
- Output voltage: 230V -50Hz single phase (60Hz on demand)
- THD: < 2%
- Max. continuous power: 10KW
- Max overload: 30-50% (depending on the engine) restricted in time
- Two of these devices can be linked in parallel to increase available wattage through the generator outlets.
- Performances following ISO8528 (generator-set): G4 / G3 class

Generator production comprises both turbogenerators and hydrogenerators. The former, depending on the type of cooling system used (air, hydrogen, stator water and hydrogen), have rated powers ranging from 20 MW (or less for geothermal applications) to 900 MVA.
The latter can be supplied with rated powers up to several hundred MVA (the company has a slow machine reference of more than 400 MVA) and are classified as fast, mid-speed and slow. Long life cycles and qualified development capabilities are features of all Ansaldo Energia products.

We design induction and asynchronous generators for decentralised power generation. Our generators are characterised by high efficiency and reliability. Our induction generators are used in gas engines as well as gas and steam turbines.
Their power range is between 400 kVA and 25 MVA at a nominal voltage between 2.3 kV and 13.8 kV (20 kV). We also build low-voltage and high-voltage asynchronous generators for hydroelectric turbines (ten-pole to twenty-pole, 200 kVA-5,000 kVA).
