Self-aligning ball bearings are double row, self-retaining units comprising solid outer rings with a concave raceway, inner rings with a cylindrical or tapered bore and ball and cage assemblies. The bearings are available in open and sealed versions.
The self-aligning ball bearing has two rows of balls and a common concave sphered raceway in the outer ring. The bearing is consequently self-aligning and insensitive to angular misalignmengts of the shaft relative to the housing. It is particular suitable for applications where considerable shaft deflections or misalignment are to be expected.additionally, the self-aligning ball bearing has the lowest friction of all rolling bearings, which enables it to run cooler even at high speeds.

Ball Bearings
Ball bearings are machinery components, which comprise an outer ring, inner ring, balls, retainers, shields and snap rings. Miniature bearings and small-sized ball bearings have up to 30mm in external diameter. Essential to high-precision rotary components, ball bearings determine rotational accuracy.
Bearing types include Radial Ball Bearings (Deep Groove and Angular Contact) and Thrust Ball Bearings. Radial bearings are designed to carry both radial and axial (thrust) loads, while thrust bearings are designed for pure thrust loads only. Many different configurations are available for ball bearings.
Miniature Bearings
Our miniature bearings range in sizes from .1181 to 1.000 inch O.D. (3mm to 26mm), and are available in inch and metric sizes.
Miniature bearings and instrument bearings are single row bearings. The construction of these miniature bearings enables them to carry moderate radial and thrust loads at low operating torque while providing high performance within a small envelope design. Miniature bearings and instrument bearings are typically available in both stainless steel for those applications requiring corrosion resistance and chrome for maximum fatigue life.
Minebea manufactures more than 8,500 different types of miniature and small-sized bearings, most of which have external diameters of 22mm or less.

Angular contact ball bearings can stand a combined radial and axial load simultaneously. Its axial load carrying capacity increases with respect to the bearing's contact angle. The contact angle (å) is defined as the angle between the line contacting the raceway and ball. The axial load carrying capacity of angular contact ball bearings increases with increasing contact angle.
NSK manufactures a complete range of metric single row angular contact bearings from 10mm to 775mm bore diameter. The standard contact angles available are 15, 25, 30 or 40 degrees. A range of inch sizes is also available with a standard 20 degree contact angle.
These bearings are capable of supporting radial loads and axial load in one direction. The larger the contact angle, the higher the axial load carrying capacity. For high-speed operation, however, smaller contact angles are preferred.
Normally these bearings are used in duplex pairs in order to support axial loads in either direction. They can be supplied paired back-to-back or face-to-face with known preloads or clearances built-in. They can also be supplied paired in tandem to accept exceptionally heavy axial loads in one direction.
The most popular contact angle for industrial bearings is 40 degrees and these can be supplied with different cage materials including steel, brass or polyamide.

Single row angular contact ball bearings are self-retaining units with solid inner and outer rings and ball and cage assemblies with polyamide, sheet steel or brass cages. The raceways of the inner and outer rings are offset in relation to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. The bearings are available in open and sealed versions. Their self-alignment capacity is very small.
Many sizes of angular contact ball bearings are supplied in X-life design. These bearings are indicated in the dimension tables. Bearings of X-life quality have an improved raceway geometry as well as optimised surfaces. This gives a significant increase in the fatigue limit load of the bearings. In calculation of the expanded adjusted rating life, values up to 50% higher are achieved. In certain applications, a smaller design of bearing arrangement can therefore be used if necessary.
Double row angular contact ball bearings are units with solid inner and outer rings and ball and cage assemblies with polyamide, sheet steel or brass cages. They correspond in design to single row angular contact ball bearings in pairs in an O arrangement but give a narrower design than these. They differ in the size of their contact angle and the design of the bearing rings.
Double direction axial angular contact ball bearings are non self-retaining precision bearings with restricted tolerances to class SP. They comprise solid shaft locating washers, spacer rings, housing locating washers and ball and cage assemblies with solid brass cages. The parts of the bearings are matched to each other and can be fitted independently of each other; they must not be interchanged with those of bearings of the same size.
Angular contact ball bearing run in higher limited rotation speed, can take radial load and axial load at the same time, and also can only take the pure axial load. The axial load carrying capacity of angular contact ball bearings increase with the increase of contact angle.

SNFA's prime objective has always been to reach the highest levels of specialisation in the design, development and manufacture of precision bearings. The various series illustrated in this catalogue differ by configuration and size. They consist of bearings ranging in size from a minimum of 6 mm diameter bore to a maximum of 380 mm outer diameter.
Development has always been in line with international standards, as there is a need to safeguard interchangeability. Bearing specifications are therefore classed in accordance with such standards.

Axial deep groove ball bearings comprise shaft locating washers, housing locating washers and ball and cage assemblies. The bearings are not self-retaining; the ball and cage assembly and bearing washers can therefore be fitted independently of each other.
In addition to series with flat washers, there are also series with spherical housing locating washers for compensation of static misalignment. These designs are normally used in comjunction with support washers. Axial deep groove ball bearings are available in single and double direction designs.
Both designs can support high axial forces but must not be subjected to radial loads.
Bearings of this type consist of the washers with raceways and an assembly of ball and cage. The washer that contacts the shaft is called the shaft washer, and the one attached to the housing is called the housing washer. Thrust ball bearings are designed to accommodate thrust loads at moderate speeds, for practical purposes their radial load capacity is nil. The mounting is relatively simple as the washers and the ball and cage assembly can be mounted separately as Thrust ball bearings are separable.
Bearings with a sphered housing washer can be used together with a sphered seating washer to compensate for misalignment between the support surface in the housing and the shaft as it’s important to keep the thrust bearings square with the shaft. However, the ability of the self-aligning seat to follow shaft wobble or misalignments is still quite limited.
Double direction thrust ball bearings characteristics are identical to those of the one-directional bearing, except it can accommodate axial loads acting in both directions and can thus serve to axially locate a shaft in both directions. To prevent adverse influence of centrifugal forces and gyration moments the single and double direction thrust ball bearings must be constantly subjected to a specific minimum load.
Thrust ball bearings are made as single and double direction bearings. Both designs can transmit high axial loads but must not be loaded radially. Besides the design with flat washers, thrust ball bearings with spherical housing washers and seating washers are available.

RKB thrust ball bearings are manufactured in single and double directions. They can carry only heavy axial loads.
The single direction bearings consist of shaft washer, housing washer and ball cage assembly.
Thrust ball bearings with sphered housing washer can be used with sphered seating housing to compensate the misalignment between the support surface and in the shaft.
The boundary dimensions of RKB thrust ball bearings in metric size conform to ISO 104/1979.
They are produced to normal tolerance class in accordance with ISO 199/1997.
RKB big size thrust ball bearings are normally fitted with machined brass cage(suffix M). Machined steel cage (suffix F) is available.
RKB cylindrical roller thrust bearings are generally used to take over heavy pure axial loads, to carry shock loads and to be stiff into a little axial space with simple design.
Double direction cylindrical roller thrust bearings can be easily obtained.
In case of more rows, the rollers have various lengths and are alternatively mounted.
The boundary dimensions is conform to ISO 104/1979.
In order to guarantee a proper arrangement of the rolling parts for the satisfactory operation, they have always to be submitted to a given minimum load.
Both machined brass and steel cages are available as standard.
RKB production range also includes inch size cylindrical roller thrust bearings.
There are standard design variations of RKB inch series. Each design is based on a standard single acting with addition of special components: the AT aligning type; the crane hook thrust type; the DT double acting thrust bearing and the DAT aligning style combination of DT and AT types; the SDT simplified double acting thrust.
