Through its Sabre brand Scott Health and Safety was a pioneer of Escape Breathing Apparatus technology. The original concept for the coveted Sabre ELSA - Emergency Life Support Apparatus was developed to help avoid unecessary loss of life, like that seen during the falklands war. During this conflict it was found that 90% of fatalities on HMS Sheffield died through smoke inhalation.
The result of research conducted by Scott Health & Safety led to the development of the 'ELSA', which has now become industry standard terminology for Escape Breathing Apparatus. The ELSA is in now in its third generation and is available in either positive pressure or constant flow models giving 10 or 15 minute escape periods.

| Supplied air (or air supplied) refers to respirators that provide the user with clean, breathable air from a self-contained source, such as a cylinder, or via an airline from a source outside the contaminated atmosphere. Supplied air respirators are used in atmospheres that are determined to be IDLH or Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health. These NFPA and/or NIOSH-approved respirators are used in a myriad of applications by firefighters, industrial workers, first responders, and military personnel. |
| The Speed-Evac disposable mouth bit respirator provides the wearer with a timely escape from toxic non-IDLH levels of ammonia or acid gases (chlorine, chlorine dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide or hydrogen chloride) It is unaffected by facial hair and requires minimal training for use. |
| Air purifying respirators use cartridges or canisters constructed of carbon or paper-based filters to remove contaminants or particles from non-IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health) environments. Air purifying respirators that rely on the user's inhalation to draw the ambient air over the filters are called negative pressure air purifying respirators. Those that utilize blower to pull the ambient air through the filters and then push it to the user are called positive pressure air purifying respirators. Air-purifying respirators have numerous applications from construction and automotive repair to pharmaceutical and oil production. |
| High pressure breathing air compressors used to fill SCBA cylinders for use in the fire and industrial safety markets, as well as SCUBA cylinders for use in diving. Compressor systems are comprised of two components: a compressor unit, which compresses clean ambient air, and a fill station, which both fills a cylinders and provides containment safety during filling. Compressors systems are available in both stationary models for use in permanent installations and mobile units for use on scene. |

| A self contained breathing apparatus or SCBA is a device worn by first responders, firefighters, industrial worker and others to provide breathable air in environments that are Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH). The term "self-contained" differentiates SCBA from other apparatus connected to a remote supply by a long hose. |
| Primarily suitable for confined space entry applications Scott offer a range of self contained, portable instruments for the simultaneous monitoring of up to four gases: typically oxygen, flammable and two toxic gases. |
| Scott offer a wide range of personal hand held gas monitors for the detection of oxygen, toxic and flammable gases. |
