The most commonly used and best adapted valve is the butterfly valve . Its simple, robust and maintenance-free basic construction makes it the premier choice for exhaust gas valves. It can be further customized with shaft sealing and/or bearing bushings to further enhance its performance, depending on the engine and fuel used. The ball segment valve is an alternate choice.
Exhaust valves and actuators
Exhaust valves are shipped bundled with actuators and positioners. Most actuators have customized mounting as well as high temperature gaskets in both the actuator and positioner. The positioners are also adapted to withstand the engine vibrations.

Posi-flate's unique butterfly valve design uses air pressure to expand the seat against the disc, providing even pressure distribution for a bubble-tight seal, every time. Because the seat makes only casual contact with the disc during valve opening and closing, there is minimal disc impingement. This is in contrast to conventional butterfly valves where disc impingement leads to shaving of the seat, decreasing the overall performance and valve life.
Substantially less torque is required to open and close the Posi-flate butterfly valve, thus a smaller actuator can be used resulting in lower overall valve cost.

The Series 486 inflatable seated butterfly valve from Posi-flate features a fully machined 316L stainless steel housing. The single piece disc and shaft is available in a number of materials including 316L stainless steel and hastelloy. The disc may be polished to a mirror finish or coated with PTFE, nylon or other high performance coating.
The stainless steel valve is ideal for powders, granules, slurries and liquids and is available in sizes 2" (50 mm) to 20" (500 mm). Typical applications include loading and unloading of process material, sterile air control, and outlet valves for storage containers or hoppers.

SOMAS metal seated butterfly valves have as standard a seat made of solid stainless steel.
The unique design of disc and seat gives tight shut-off. As standard the butterfly valves meet the leakage class ANSI B.16.104 class V (Class VI for valves with PTFE-seat).
The metal seated butterfly valve has opened new opportunities for demanding applications. The design of the VSS- and MTV-valves in combination with choice of materials provides the widest possible range of applications for control as well as on-off.
The combination of low weight, short face to face dimension, simple operation and, above all, good tight shut-off make the valves an advantageous alternative for most control- and shut-off applications.
The universal design, enabling the valves to be manufactured in several different materials, broadens its field of application. The high velocity will have no effect on the metal seat and the valve will keep its tight shut-off ability for many years of operation.
The butterfly valve can be used for both clean and contaminated fluids, gases and vapours. For control installations the valve is fitted with SOMAS pneumatic actuator and positioner.
With dimensions up to DN 1200 and pressure classes PN 10-50 we are able to cope with most applications within the process industry.

HTBF is the large butterfly valve which has individual cooling device for
body, disc, shaft and seat without using CASTABLE(special material used for
standing high temperature).
Cooling device using water / N2 Gas is installed at body and body-seat,

General description
Butterfly valves are the most efficient and reliable sealing Isolation valve mechanism under high vacuum working conditions. A vacuum seal provided around the plate periphery in the main body of the valve ensures fail proof working of the valve. For efficient working of the valve it is advised to ensure that the sealing plates are facing atmosphere.
Butterfly Valves are of small in terms of thickness which ensures easy and faster passage for air and gases and are ideally suited for "In-line" isolation purpose. Though the butterfly valve is not intended to be used as an independent valve, it is widely used as a Baffle Valve in union with a chevron baffle at the top of a Diffusion Pump.
