Engineering Base is the new and innovative design software for the electrical engineering community. Creating electrical design documentation with Engineering Base is faster and easier than ever. Engineering Base combines Microsoft Office Visio, with Microsoft SQL Server, the powerful enterprise relational database management and analysis system. Electrical diagrams are drawn with Visio and all data is managed with the SQL Server.
The typical situation in electrical design
In order to manage your engineering project, you need to work with different sets of tools. Solid Edge Wire Harness Design is a dedicated process driven environment for the efficient creation, routing and organization of wires, cables and bundles in a Solid Edge assembly. Wire Harness Design allows electrical and mechanical design teams to collaborate on designs to create complete and accurate digital mockups containing both mechanical and electrical components, and removes the need for expensive physical prototypes. Design violations such as exceeding physical bundle size or a bend radius being too tightly routed are constantly monitored as the harness is being designed; live feedback immediately displays any problems. Reporting of cable and wire cut length and attributes (allowing for a slack percentage and wire stripping) are captured during the harness design process. The export of ready-to-use 'net list' files adds these mechanical attributes to generate harness designs that are ready for manufacturing.
Automatic wire harness design

Getting your CAD geometries ready for FEA modeling is easier than ever with the CAD Import Module. It facilitates the reading of industry-standard formats such as STEP, IGES, ACIS® (SAT®) or Parasolid®. Extra add-ons support file formats for packages that have their own geometry kernel.
The CAD Import Module goes beyond just the reading of file formats. The interactive repair feature assures that imported geometries are mathematically correct for FEA modeling. And, in order to cut down on unnecessary details in your CAD geometries, defeaturing tools that remove fillets, small faces, sliver faces, as well as spikes or short edges are included.
The CAD Import Module also provides bidirectional interfaces to SolidWorks® and Autodesk® Inventor® that maintain associativity with these CAD systems. This means that geometric parameteric sweeps can be run using the COMSOL models, which result in automatically updating of the CAD geometry in the corresponding CAD system.
