Machine Complex Free-Form Shapes with Ease
ESPRIT's NURBS-based machining engine handles fabricating difficult free-form shapes with ease. Specifically designed to address the 3D challenges in the mold, die, and toolmaking markets, ESPRIT provides you with a powerful set of tools and machining cycles for free-form roughing, Z-level machining, finishing, and re-machining in 3-axis or 5-axis.
5-axis Free-Form Machining
Machining complex 3D parts in a single setup is easy with the powerful ESPRIT CAM system. ESPRIT streamlines programming and provides dynamic onscreen program verification, eliminating the need for expensive machine-tool dry runs. For 5-axis finishing, ESPRIT gives you a full range of options, including planar, normal, transitional, parametric, and offset styles. Program your 3D 5-axis machine cycles with ESPRIT and benefit from the superior surface quality, part accuracy, and material removal rates provided by today's multi-axis machine tools.
High-Speed Machining
ESPRIT's high-speed machining (HSM) functionality is built into all its machining cycles allowing you to cut hardened materials in minimal time while maintaining constant loads on cutting tools utilizing the smooth, continuous movements so critical in 3D HSM. Your choices include sharp corner smoothing, loop-style bridge movements, ramp and helical entry into material, spiral-style cutting with constant overlaps, tangency entry, and constant Z-level cutting. HSM optimization for NURBS, spline-curve and arc-optimized G-code output is built into ESPRIT's universal post processor.
Z-Level Machining
ESPRIT's Z-level machining cycle automatically maintains constant loads on cutting tools for smooth, continuous high-speed toolpaths. When creating a Z-level finishing operation you have the option to machine the entire part or selectively machine only vertical or horizontal areas. When machining the entire part you can choose to cut the vertical and horizontal areas with different tools and use both roughing and finishing options.

SICUBE®
DESCRIPTION
3-dimensional laser cutting technology.
SICUBE is a system that enables 5 and 6 axis continuous laser cutting machines to be operated automatically. When combined with SI[CAD], SICUBE enables three-dimensional model mathematics to be imported and modified or completely recreated. Here the term mathematics refers to shapes on which cutting paths can be generated.
By means of a high precision analysis of the surfaces and curves to be cut, the system decides the beginning and ending procedures and moves the laser cutting head to a perpendicular position above the relative points on the cutting path, defining the technological laser parameters on the basis of the work rules set by the user.
The program guarantees a risk free cutting path thanks to a monitoring module as well as specifically checking for possible collisions between the laser head and parts of the piece to be cut or any securing tools that may be used to hold the piece in place. A dynamic simulation of the workpiece, the securing system and the laser head including highlights of the 5-axis head rotation can also be viewed before the part program to be used is generated on the machine computer.
FEATURES
SICUBE consists of the following modules:
- SI[CAD]: 3D geometry
- Advanced modeller: surface modeller
- SICUT3: 5/6 axis laser cutting technology
- PostProcessor: ISO code generator

CAM Compatibility
Many control systems on the market have some kind of CAM capability, but some are more trouble than they’re worth. All CAD geometry is eventually reduced to a triangulated surface in order to generate CAM data for a control.
The quality of the surface depends on the resolution of the triangles. The control then has to deal with the problem of cutting to a tolerance from whatever CAM data it receives.
There are three components that impact CAM data quality—which ultimately affects surface finish:
* uniformity of segments: whether the segments are uniformly distributed along the contour
* segment angles: the changes in the angle between segments
* data resolution: whether the resolution of the data points introduces computational errors
If you loosen the tolerance when you generate the CAM data, the segments will deviate further from the ideal curve.
Since the Hurco DXF Transfer is transforming the geometry into a conversational program, there is practically no loss of data. The Hurco control interpolates arcs and provides a parameter that lets the programmer define the chordal deviation for this type of interpolation.
When you simply have a 2D CAD design, use Hurco’s DXF Transfer feature to easily import your CAD image into Hurco’s control to create any 2D contour, frames, circles, and simple 3D contours from 2D geometry that can be translated or rotated about an axis. You can also program hole locations.

GibbsCAM Data Exchange
GibbsCAM supports a wide variety of data exchange formats enabling data to be read from just about any source. Basic GibbsCAM packages provide support for DXG, DWG and IGES formats. GibbsCAM solids-based packages support the Parasolid format and can directly read native model files from Solid Edge and SolidWorks. Numerous other data formats are supported through other optional data exchange options. With GibbsCAM you will never have to turn-away a job because you can't read in the CAD data.
DXF/DWG
Primarily used as an exchange format by drafting systems, such as AutoCAD, DXF/DWG is often used with 2-/2.5-axis production parts. Depending on the supported level of geometry, GibbsCAM can directly read in wireframe, surface and solid geometry contained in DXF/DWG files. Geometry can also be exported from GibbsCAM in DXF and DWG formats.
IGES and VDA-FS
A popular, well-known exchange format, IGES is often used by CAD systems to transfer surface geometry. GibbsCAM can directly read or write IGES format files containing wireframe and surface geometry. With a solids-based module, GibbsCAM can also read IGES solids. GibbsCAM can optionally read the German Automotive Association's VDA-FS data format for trimmed surfaces.
STEP AP203/AP214
As a next generation product data exchange format, STEP files are usually used to transfer solid model data. When support for the native solid model format is not available, STEP provides an excellent way to transfer solid model data to and from GibbsCAM. With the Solid Exchange Built on Granite option, solids-based GibbsCAM modules can read and write files in STEP AP203 and AP214 format.
