Prompted by demand from their global network of agents and distributors, Bowers Metrology has announced the launch of a major new addition to its best selling XT Xtreme Bore Gauging range. Complementing the company’s popular pistol-grip and internal-micrometer models, the robust new XT Lever range is perfect for vertical bore measurement, providing accurate and repeatable bore gauging under inspection department or shop-floor conditions.
Aiding ease of use, Bowers’ new XT Lever bore gauges have a simple ergonomic action and can be fitted with a wide variety of analogue and digital indicators or even transducer probes. For use within hostile measuring environments, such as in close proximity to Machine Tools, Bowers flexible new range can be provided with IP 65 rated digital indicators, rendering them resistant to coolant, water and airborne particles. A ‘wireless’ gauge module is also available, enabling cable free communication with remote data collectors, computers etc.
The cost-effective new range of XT Lever bore gauges boast hardwearing extended travel carbide measuring anvils and are able to measure diameters up to 300mm. Bowers is also able to manufacture affordable ‘one-off’ XT Lever instruments to cater for a wide range of other problematic, internal measuring applications, such as threads, grooves, splines, etc.

The optoCONTROL 1200 is based on the principle of light quantity measurement. The complete control electronics is inside the receiver and no additional controller is necessary.
High dynamic applications can be measured due to the frequency response of 100 kHz.
|
|
Developed to measure both internal and external diameters and lengths, the gauge’s aluminium extrusion beam gives it a rigid, yet lightweight quality – making it ideal for shop-floor environments. The simple release of a locking thumb screw enables the gauge’s measuring direction to be changed easily and quickly.
The four gauges in the Intex range have been designed to measure components from 200mm up to 1m long; however extended lengths are available on request.
Features:
* Lightweight and rigid - typically weighing less than 2kg
* Internal and external measurement
* 2mm travel on moving contacts
* Adjustable fixed contacts with a range of adjustment up to 250mm
* Digital or mechanical readout display
* Hardened steel wear pads locate gauge on to the component aiding accuracy, repeatability and prolonging the life of the instrument

A refinement in calipers is the replacement of the analog dial with an electronic digital display on which the reading is displayed. Some digital calipers can be switched between metric and inch units. All provide for zeroing the display at any point along the slide, allowing the same sort of differential measurements as with the dial caliper but without the need to read numbers that may be upside down. Digital calipers may contain some sort of "reading hold" feature, allowing the reading of dimensions even in awkward locations where the display cannot be seen.
Even with all of these benefits, digital calipers have by no means replaced the dial caliper. Digital calipers typically do not have the beam structure of a dial or vernier caliper and therefore do not have the repeatability or accuracy to an amateur user.
Digital calipers offer a serial data output. Measurements can be taken and instantly stored in a spreadsheet or similar piece of software, significantly decreasing the time taken to take and record a series of measurements. Like dial calipers, the slide of a digital caliper can usually be locked using a lever or thumb-screw. Both dial and digital calipers can be used with accessories that extend their usefulness.

We offer three main versions of our Digital Probe
• Spring Push
• Pneumatic Push
• Feather Touch
The Probe is an absolute measuring device that delivers accurate results when switched on, regardless of any 'OFF' movements.

A micrometer sometimes known as a micrometer screw gauge, is a device used widely in mechanical engineering and machining for precisely measuring, along with other metrological instruments such as dial calipers and vernier calipers. Micrometers are often, but not always, in the form of calipers. Shop for WESTport Calipers
There are five common types of micrometers; the names are based on their application:
- Outside micrometer- (aka micrometer caliper), typically used to measure wires, spheres, shafts and blocks.
- Inside micrometer- used to measure the diameter of holes.
- Depth micrometer- measures depths of slots and steps.
- Bore micrometer- a 3 -anvil head on a micrometer base used to accurately measure inside diameters.
- Tube micrometer- used to measure the thickness of tubes.
