Preparative Fraction Collector PFC
The GERSTEL PFC automatically collects compounds after gas chromatographic separation. The PFC is equipped with six sample traps and one waste trap. Traps are available in 1 µl or 100 µl volumes.
For optimum compound recovery, the PFC can be equipped with optional LN2 trap cooling or cryostatic trap cooling systems.
The GERSTEL PFC allows for the collection of individual compounds, a series of compounds, or specific classes of compounds. Thanks to microprocessor control, trap switching times can be selected to within 0.01 minutes. This permits reliable collection of individual compounds that are closely resolved.
The PFC is designed without valves or cold spots in the sample flow path ensuring maximum transfer efficiency.
The reliability and reproducibility of the system makes it possible to trap compounds over hundreds of injections. This makes it possible to further analyse the fractions by techniques requiring larger sample mass such as NMR or IR.

Cooled Injection System CIS
GERSTEL Cooled Injection System - internationally the most frequently used PTV-type universal inlet, with patented septumless sampling head.
Gas chromatographic analysis is now more versatile, reproducible and has lower detection limits than ever before, thanks to temperature programmed sample injection using GERSTEL Cooled Injection System.
The GERSTEL CIS provides two essential system-functions:
- Universal injection system for all injection techniques: split, splitless, on-column and large-volume up to 1000 µl.
- Cryotrap enrichment system in combination with sample preparation systems, for example, the GERSTEL ThermalDesorption System TDS, the Thermal Desorption Unit TDU or the GERSTEL MultiPurpose Sampler MPS.
The high temeprature version CIS 6 enables automated pyrolysis of liquid polymer suspensions in combination with the MPS autosampler. The CIS is easily and conveniently controlled from the GERSTEL MAESTRO Software - stand alone or through the Agilent Technologies ChemStation software. One method and one sequence table controls the complete system including GC/MS.

Olfactory Detection Port ODP
Parallel olfactory detection of GC fractions.
The ODP allows the sensing of compounds by the human nose as they elute from the gas chromatograph. The effluent is split as it leaves the column so that it arrives simultaneously at the nose and at the detector.
This way additional information is gained on compounds that give rise to specific odors.
GERSTEL ODP offers:
- Parallel operation with most standard detectors, including MSD
- Humidifier for comfortable extended usage
- Voice recording and voice recognition: Spoken comments are transferred and added automatically to the chromatogram as peak annotations
- ODP 3 provides a heated mixing chamber where humidified make-up gas and column effluent can be mixed without risk of condensation and signal tailing
The GERSTEL ODP is used world-wide by most leading fragrance and flavor houses as well as by many world-wide companies in the fields of cosmetic, food and beverage production.

Thermal Desorption Unit TDU
The worlds most flexible Thermal Desorption Instrument
The Thermal Desorption Unit (TDU) is a flexible automated solution for thermal desorption and thermal extraction.
Several techniques are supported by the TDU:
- Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction (SBSE) using the GERSTEL Twister®
- Dynamic Headspace (DHS) based on standard headspace vials
- Air sampling onto adsorbent tubes combined with thermal desorption
- Thermal extraction of solid samples placed in fritted TDU tubes
- Thermal extraction of liquids placed in µ-vials inside the TDU
- Direct introduction and thermal extraction of liquids such as standards
The TDU supports manual operation and it can be removed in seconds to enable direct liquid sample introduction into the GERSTEL Cooled Injection System (CIS), a PTV-type universal GC inlet.
Up to 196 samples can be analyzed in one automated sequence using one or more methods when the TDU is configured with the GERSTEL MultiPurpose Sampler (MPS).
The MAESTRO software combined with the Agilent ChemStation controls the complete process from sample introduction through thermal desorption to GC/MS analysis with one method and one sequence table ensuring efficient and error-free operation. When operating with Agilent MassHunter, just one sequence table operates the complete system.

Thermal Desorption System TDS
The GERSTEL Thermal Desorption System TDS is a flexible multi-functional system for highly sensitive determination of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs) that have been trapped on adsorbent tubes or on GERSTEL Twisters.
The TDS is frequently used for direct thermal extraction and determination of VOCs and SVOCs from solids without sample preparation. Application examples are natural products, flavor and fragance, emissions from materials that are used indoors in buildings or in automobiles, semiconductors, polymers and packaging.
The TDS is mounted on top of a Cooled Injection System CIS that is used as a cryotrap, focusing and concentrating the components to be determined, and then transferring them to the capillary column in split- or splitless mode without analyte discrimination or loss of analytes. With the addition of the TDS-A Autosampler, the TDS becomes a fully automated thermal desorption system capable of unattended analysis of up to 20 samples.
The MAESTRO software combined with the Agilent ChemStation controls the complete process from sample introduction through thermal desorption to GC/MS analysis with one method and one sequence table ensuring efficient and error-free operation.
TDS Accessories:
- TDS-A Autosampler
- TDS G On-Line version for whole air sampling
- Thermal Extractor TE
- Pyrolysis Module PM
- Tube Conditioner TC
- Tube Standard Preparation System TSPS
- Gas Sampler GS

Short reaction times and particularly high efficiency: the principles of a gas turbine and steam power plant are combined in a combined-cycle power plant. Efficiencies of up to 60% can be obtained by using a gas and a (downstream-arranged) steam turbine. Under combined operations (with integrated district heating supply) efficiencies of around 90% can be had.
In gas-fired plants as well, Hitachi Power Europe has both extensive know-how and a lengthy track record across the entire range stretching from planning via acquisition and design through to commissioning.
The highly successful and globally deployed H-25 / H-15 gas turbines from parent company Hitachi, Ltd. are the optimum ones for running power plants in a dependable, efficient and economical manner. Designed as a heavy duty machine (30 MW rating class), over 120 Hitachi gas turbines in power plants are in service throughput the world (as of mid-2009). The turbines are sound and dependable under continuous operations, involve low maintenance costs and are admirably suited for plants with cogeneration/district heating supply. Hitachi gas turbines are also used as power drive turbines in industry.
