A compactPCI is a computer bus used for industrial computers. It combines PCI protocol with Eurocard format and connectors, and is in part inspired by VME formats. The abbreviations "cPCI" and "CPCI" are used in the industrial world to refer to compactPCI buses.
CompactPCI buses are used in combination with 3U or 6U size cards, and are usually interconnected with passive backplanes.
Every type of computer component using this standard can be found on DirectIndustry: cards, packages, controller cards, I/O modules, single board computers, et al.
As is the case for most computer buses, compactPCI can be used in many types of computer infrastructures and in fields as varied as industrial automation, process control and instrumentation.
