Storage devices serve a number of purposes on a refrigeration system. On the high side of a system, the receiver will hold additional system refrigerant charge. On the low side of the system, the accumulator will trap excess liquid, keeping it from getting to the compressor. The oil separator will remove oil from the discharge vapor and return it to the compressor.
The A-AS protects the compressor from liquid slugging and is used with CFC, HCFC, and HFC refrigerants. It is available for systems through 28 tons nominal capacity.
A compensator tank is a mode dependent receiver that can be used in a heat pump system. As the heating mode does not require as much refrigerant as the cooling mode, the compensator tank stores the excess refrigerant.
