All AMETEK brushless DC motors and blowers require a motor/blower controller to operate. Many of these AMETEK BLDC motors and blowers feature a built in, integrated controller that takes the DC input from a power supply or battery and processes it into phase drive signals that are used to commutate the motor. Motors and blowers that require low voltage DC input (11 to 52 volts) that do not come equipped with an integrated, onboard controller, require one of the external controllers described in this section.

The DECS 50/5 (Digital EC Controller Sensorless) is a new controller for driving brushless DC motors without Hall sensors.
Typical sensorless drives such as pumps and fan applications can now easily be created thanks to modern technology and expert integrated controlling algorithms. maxon's own in-house developed speed controller is particularly impressive through its performance, price and size.
As well as being a top performer, attractively priced and very small, the new amplifier's other key feature is that it can be easily adapted to specific requirements. The free choice of starting sequence is a major benefit, as it allows the attached motor to start up easily, even when the motor data or load ratios are unfavourable. The DECS 50/5 also provides control inputs for selecting motor direction, enable and braking. As usual, the necessary protective functions have all been fully implemented. An operating status display (LED) and speed monitor output complete the convenient control features.

The Red Drive Controller is a compact (46x63mm) yet powerful motor driver and controller. It is designed to be used in conjunction with our dual channel encoder and wide range of low cost DC motors and gearboxes.
In combination with our unique graphical software and Serial Adapter units the Red Drive controller is easily programmed by the user. Both simple and complex sequences of motion can be undertaken with the user specifying how and when their motor will move. Full control is available over speeds, distances and direction. The unit is able to interact with switches, LEDs, buzzers and other user defined inputs and outputs.
The Red Drive software provides the user with an incredibly easy to use interface for defining all aspects of the controller. No complex programming is required, just a simple drag and drop flowchart style interface which uses real world values such as rpm and seconds.

To control the speed of the DC motor gradually, smooth DC voltage across the armature of the motor needs to be regulated along with the fixed DC voltage across the Field winding in the case of the 4 wire DC motors. The DC drive featured here, generates the variable DC voltage using phase angle control technique incorporating Diode / SCR rectifier. The DC voltage across the armature winding can be smoothly varied using the potentiometer or using the external control signal of 4-20mA or (0-5)VDC. Models are available for 1/8HP to 5HP DC motors operating on 100VDC to 400VDC.
APPLICATIONS
Suitable for small machines in Plastic, Packaging and Pharmaceutical industries where smooth and steady control over DC motor is required

TMCM-163-42 V2
Description
1-axis BLDC controller/driver 12A/39V, motor mountable
The TMCM-163-42 is a controller / driver module for general brushless DC motor applications. It integrates velocity and torque control as well as a hall sensor based positioning mode. The position resolution depends on the motor, i.e. a standard 8 pole motor gives a motor axis resolution of 15 degrees. The module can be used in stand alone operation or remote controlled via a RS232 or RS485 interface (ordering option). Its small form factor (42 x 42 x 20 mm³) allows for mounting directly on a motor (NEMA 17 mounting holes - new V2 version only).

The KBPC state-of-the-art electronics include short circuit and transient protection to provide the ultimate in reliability. Electronics overload protection is also provided, which prevents motor burnout and demagnetization of PM motors. The control can be operated in either the speed or torque mode via a jumper selection. The current range, which is also jumper selectable, eliminates the necessity for calibration of IR compensation and current limit for most applications. The KBCC also contains jumper selections for AC line voltage (115/230), DC armature voltage (90/180) and feedback type (armature/ tachometer).
Standard features include Armature Fusing, Electronic Start/Stop and LED Indicator Array for “Power On,” “Stop” and “Overload.” Although the KBCC is factory set for most applications, a variety of trimpots allows adjustment of the following parameters: MIN and MAX speed, Acceleration, Deceleration, Current Limit, IR Comp, and Timed Current Limit. The drive offers the ultimate in flexibility with the availability of several customer installed options. These include: Forward- Brake-Reverse, Run-Stop-Jog, On/Off AC Line Switch, Anti-Plug Reversing Module, Input Signal Isolation, and Electronic Potentiometer. A complete instruction manual is included.

The KBIC® full-wave DC motor speed controls are designed for applications demanding excellent performance, high reliability and low cost. Although compact in size (only 4.30" x 3.64" x 1.25"), these controls offer better than 2% regulation over a 50:1 speed range. The controls are fabricated with components which have proven reliability, including MOV transient protection, which is used to protect the power bridge. Integrated circuitry is used to provide a non-complicated design with superior load and line voltage regulation. Electronic current limiting (CL) protects the motor and control against overloads by limiting the maximum level of output current. Acceleration start (adjustable from .5 to 4 seconds) provides a smooth start each time the AC power is applied. A unique feature of the KBIC® controls is the Plug-in Horsepower Resistor®. It eliminates the need for recalibrating IR Comp and Current Limit when the control is used on various horsepower motors. Additional versatility is achieved by using the Auxiliary Heatsink (optional) which is used to double the horsepower rating of each model. The output of the control is a linear function of potentiometer rotation. The KBIC® can also be operated in a voltage following mode by supplying an isolated analog signal (0 – 9VDC) to the input terminals P2 (+) and F-. The controls are terminated as standard with Q-D terminals. A Barrier Terminal Accessory Kit is available which incorporates both line and armature fuses.
