They may be unglamorous and unobtrusive, but without them it would not be possible to operate an electronic system. Power supplies are essential. They provide the voltage supply for sensors, actuators, controllers and other electrical loads. ifm offers low-cost transformer power supplies but also powerful switched-mode power supplies for different applications.
Transformer power supplies
Transformer power supplies provide a low voltage, normally 24 V DC to supply PLCs, sensors or evaluation electronics. A transformer according to DIN 0551 ensures a safe electrical separation from mains voltage and low voltage. The output voltage can be regulated (± 5%) or smoothed by means of capacitors. The different designs and output powers allow adaptation to diverse operating conditions.
Switched-mode power supplies
Primary switched-mode power supplies are a compact and economical solution to supply sensors, actuators and sensitive electronic components and are gaining more and more acceptance. As opposed to conventional transformer power supplies with regulated output voltage primary switched-mode power supplies need no heavy transformers so that there are fewer iron and copper losses. They are therefore distinguished by a very high degree of efficiency of up to 92 %. |

| The PSR series power supplies are regulated DC power supplies capable of operating from 100/240 VAC input, 50/60 Hz. The PSR power supplies include a shunt regulator and blocking diode. | MTM Power GmbH, the specialist of individual power supplies, has designed a new generation of DIN rail power supplies, series HSA, for industrial application. As universal compact power supplies, they have an output power of 120 or 240 W. One of the major advantages is to increase to a maximum the readiness for operation of the system to be supplied even under difficult conditions. With dimensions of 50 x 130 x 130 mm (HSA120) and 80 x 130 x 130 mm (HSA240), they perfectly fit into cabinets only offering little space. The devices are available with output voltages of 12, 24, 36 and 48 VDC. They have a high efficiency of up to 89 %, are continuously short circuit protected and need no ground load. The output current is electronically limited in case of overload and the devices then change into constant current operation.
