HDD Hard Rock Hammer
HDD40 Rock HammerThe Hard Rock System is a pneumatic percussion tool that is similar in concept to a standard jackhammer except that it operates at a higher frequency of percussions per minute (as much as 2,200 beats per minute on the HDD-80). The tools fit on nearly any horizontal directional drill and are available in 4-inch (HDD-40), 5-inch (HDD-50), and 6-inch (HDD-60) pneumatic hammers and a pneumatic pull reamer capable of 10-, and 12-inch (203.2-, 254.0-, and 304.8-mm) diameters.
Since they are powered by high-volume air pressure, the Hard Rock Systems require little drilling fluid and a minimal amount of water — 2 to 4 gpm (7.57 Lpm to 15.14 Lpm) — for cooling and lubrication.
Conventional drills use as much as 100 to 200 gpm (378.5 to 757.1 Lpm). This means less clean up and expense than with conventional drilling. The Hard Rock Systems offer seamless integration with the existing controls on all Astec compact and mid size horizontal directional drills. They easily attach to existing drill pipe so there’s no need for special pipe in pipe systems.
