Laser precision drilling in XXL
The LASERTEC 130 PowerDrill sets innovative standards for drilling of large turbine components. Large, annular components for combustion chambers and after-burners, or even turbine vanes for industrial gas turbines can be machined fast and efficiently. The two highly dynamic torque motors in the component rotary axis and in the laser head ensure short machining times with precision. Trepanning is possible with high cutting speeds due to the excellent machine dynamics. A new programming system for combustion chambers and similar components delivers fast and easy generation of complex machining programs. A new collision prevention system offers maximum protection during the setup of programs with the regidity required for a high speed manufacturing process.

LASER DRILLING makes it possible to machine both very small and precise holes in a variety of shapes and orientations in a wide variety of materials, including difficult-to-machine aerospace alloys. These holes can be tapered or shaped to enhance the amount and direction of air or liquid flowing through them. The drilling of holes in aerospace/turbine engine parts generally serves to enhance the cooling characteristics of the part. These holes can be drilled at extreme angles to the surface. Hundreds or thousands of cooling holes can be drilled in one part with a single set up in cylindrical or unusually shaped parts. A high power pulsed Nd:YAG laser is normally used, although a CO2 laser can be used with non-metallic parts. Processing is accomplished through either percussion drilling or trepanning. In the laser drilling process, high power density is accomplished by using a high power laser and a focused spot size of 0.05 mm (0.002") to 0.75 mm (0.030").

The MCV-2002 “Two interferometers operating at the same time” utilizes a dual beam laser head module to accomplish simultaneous linear and angular (pitch or yaw, straightness, flatness) calibration of axes on machine tools, CMMs, or X-Y tables as well as surface plates. The software enables the operator to automatically collect linear and angular positions simultaneously or angular data on the fly in accordance with various industry standards. Material temperature, air temperature and air pressure variations are automatically compensated. linear measurement range of 33-feet (10-m) with 1 microinch (10nm) resolution, and an angular measurement range of 16-feet (5-m) with 0.2-arcsec angular resolution. Optional ranges up to 200-feet (60-m) linear and 100-feet (30-m) angular are also available upon request..

Preco Cross Web Series laser systems utilize high speed directed beam technology to create contour and cross web scoring and perforating at web speeds up to 457 m/minute (1500 feet/minute) depending on print repair distance and film type.
Cross-Web systems provide scoring and micro-perforating of materials in the cross-web direction. This processing provides easy-open/easy-tear capability on materials for vertical form, fill and seal machines. Contour systems produce continuous scoring in a non-linear pattern along a web direction.

The laser sources integrated in the FL systems are maintenance-free MOPFA and Q-switched pulsed Ytterbium fiber lasers. They deliver a high power 1.064nm laser beam focused to a spot size of a few microns. Their near diffraction-limited beam can mark, drill or process a wide range of materials.
While industrial lasers have seen revolutionary improvements in their conception and performances in the last few years, the technology related to beam deflection has remained the same since more than 20 years. Lasea’s scanners use a new technology with very low power consumption, heat generation, and weight, therefore reducing stabilization times and thermal drifts, and offering much higher acceleration ramps and speeds.
The FL system is managed by Lasea’s control software KYLA.
