Drilling units are machine tool accessories used to automate drilling operations. They can be installed on assembly lines or combined with machining centers for different drilling applications.
These devices can perform various types of drilling operations including die sinking and reaming. They can come with multiple-spindle heads for high-production drilling operations.
Such units usually include a drilling head, motor, feed system, a tool holder and spindle. The motor is generally electric with a transmission system to rotate the spindle. The feed system actuates the forward stroke of the drilling head and can be pneumatic, hydraulic, electric or mechanical.
When selecting a drilling unit be sure to specify the type of material you would like to machine. Depending on the material, drilling units vary in rotational speed, torque, feed stroke and drill head diameter. It also may have through coolant systems for drilling operations that generate significant heat.
