Lovejoy’s CJ Series provides to the world market highly reliable curved jaw coupling for light, medium and heavy duty electric motor and internal gas combustion engine applications. The GS Series provides a coupling solution for the motion control industry which continues Lovejoy's long history of being the world's premier coupling supplier.
The three-piece design incorporates a radial curvature to the jaw face and both radial and axial curvature (crowning) to the elastomer (spider). The curved jaw hubs are offered in sintered iron, steel, aluminum, cast and nodular iron materials. The CJ Series curved jaw coupling and the variety of urethane elements allows for angular, parallel, and axial misalignment. A simple three-piece design, makes it easy to assemble. Unlike some metallic coupling designs, the CJ Series design requires no lubrication. When assembled, the CJ Series offers no metal to metal contact of parts. The elastomer in compression design offers the benefit of continuing to function even after the elastomeric ele¬ment fails (fail-safe design). The torque range of the CJ Series product is 7.5 to 28,000 Nm. Lovejoy offers the CJ Series in a range of prod¬uct with finished stock metric bores and keyways as well as with metric bores on a made-to¬ order basis.

Jaw Couplings
Various Jaw Couplings
The zero backlash jaw coupling is comprised of an elastic "spider" and two hubs. The spider, made of an advanced polyurethane material, provides dampening of impulse loads, minimizing shock to the motor and other sensitive equipment. Available in two durometers, these spiders allow the user to customize the jaw coupling's performance. Selecting a soft spider will give the jaw coupling the greatest dampening characteristics, while a hard spider will provide the greatest torsional stiffness and strength. All jaw coupling spiders are press fit onto a curved jaw profile, assuring zero backlash operation. The curved jaw profile concentrates the forces to the center of the spider's limbs, improving the effectiveness of the elastomer material. Raised contact points on the spider limbs help maintain proper spacing between the two hubs, assuring electrical isolation and full angular misalignment capabilities. The Jaw coupling is considered fail safe because, if the spider fails, the jaws of the two hubs interlock allowing direct power transmission, allowing the application to be safely shut down for maintenance.

Bellows Couplings
Bellows couplings combine stainless steel bellows and aluminum hubs to offer superior performance in motion control applications. The bellows are made of stainless steel, which makes them ideal for transmitting torque. Due to the bellows' thin walls, the coupling is able to flex easily while remaining rigid under torsional loads. Parallel misalignment, angular misalignment and axial motion are accommodated by bellows.
The combination of aluminum hubs with the bellows results in an extremely lightweight, low inertia coupling. Zero backlash and a long, maintenance-free life are assured since the coupling has no moving parts. An important feature of the bellows coupling is a balanced design to reduce vibration in high rpm applications.
Ruland bellows couplings are offered in six sizes with set screw or Nomar® clamp style hubs and bores ranging from 1/8" (3mm) to 1" (25mm). Stainless steel hubs, keyways, and other custom features are available by special order.

Disc Couplings
All disc couplings now have a black anodized finish.
Ruland disc couplings are available in single and double disc styles with bore sizes ranging from 1/8" to 1 1/4" in the inch series and 3mm to 30mm in the metric series. The disc coupling is composed of two black anodized aluminum hubs, multiple flat stainless steel disc springs and a center spacer for double disc styles. The center spacer is available in a choice of anodized aluminum or insulating acetal for electrical isolation. The thin discs allow for a substantial amount of angular and parallel misalignment between shafts, while remaining rigid under torque loads. The disc coupling, as a result, is a high performance motion control coupling with excellent high speed capabilities (up to 10,000 rpm), strength and torsional stiffness characteristics, and low inertia for today's highly responsive systems.

Lovejoy's S-Flex coupling design is simple, ensuring ease of assembly and reliable performance. No special tools are needed for installation or removal. S–Flex couplings can be used in a wide variety of applications.
Its design is comprised of three parts. Two flanges with internal teeth engage an elastomeric flexible sleeve with external teeth. Each flange is attached to the respective shaft of the driver and driven and torque is transmitted across the flanges through the sleeve. Misalignment and torsional shock loads are absorbed by shear deflection in the sleeve.
In all designs, pre-molded teeth along the diameter of the sleeve engage with teeth of the coupling flanges. No clamps or screws are needed to connect the flanges with the flexible sleeve which securely lock together under torque for smooth transmission of power. All three sleeve materials are highly elastic which permits the S–Flex coupling to protect connected equipment from harmful shock loading, vibration, and shaft misalignment.
The S–Flex coupling from Lovejoy offers combinations of flanges and
sleeves which can be assembled to suit your specific application. Thirteen
sizes are available with torque capabilities that range from 60 in-lb to
72,480 in-lb.

Oldham Couplings
Clamp style Oldham Coupling - separated view
Oldham couplings are ideal for many motion control applications. Comprised of aluminum hubs with drive tenons that mate to a torque transmitting plastic disc, their design allows for easy sliding to accommodate misalignment with a very light bearing load. Oldham couplings also have the advantages of electrical isolation, low inertia and a balanced design for higher rpm applications. While the couplings accommodate a small amount of angular and axial misalignment, they are especially useful in applications with parallel misalignment.
Set Screw Oldham CouplingOldham couplings are offered in seven sizes of set screw or clamp style hubs with bore from 1/8" (3mm) to 1" (25mm). The hubs are anodized for improved lubricity and increased life. The replaceable center discs are available in two materials to suit different applications. Nylon discs are compliant to dampen vibrations and reduce noise. Acetal discs are designed for precision applications requiring zero backlash and high torque capacity. Since the discs are replaceable, they may be used as a torque limiter.

Today’s manufacturing sector is concerned with the amount of downtime spent on scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. The dollars lost to unscheduled maintenance by itself can be quite substantial. All industrial facilities use some type of flexible coupling for pumps, compressors, conveyors, and other machinery.
Fact is, flexible couplings all require some type of maintenance. Gear and grid type flexible couplings require lubrication. To lubricate these types of couplings, the lube plugs must first removed and then the coupling is filled with grease. Various elastomeric type flexible couplings require periodic change of the elastomeric element. The difficultly level for different types of elastomeric couplings can vary widely. Some, like the standard jaw product, require that one of the hubs be moved back on the shaft to allow for the element to be changed-out. Machinery may have to be moved to allow for this hub movement, which can be very time consuming.
Other elastomeric designs have many fasteners and parts to be disassembled for element change-out. In either case, the time that it takes to change this element is critical for maintenance personnel. This is where the advantages of the Lovejoy Jaw In Shear 6 Pin design provide a solution to plant downtime. There are no tools necessary, no hubs to move, no messy lubrication to deal with and best of all – elements can be changed in minutes.
