elastic coupling

An elastic coupling, flexible and torsionally elastic, compensates. It comprises a flexible element, spring or elastomer, between the rigid plates connected to the shafts. The flexible part confers torsional elasticity and damps shocks and vibrations.

Applications

Elastic couplings are used wherever torque must be transmitted between imperfectly aligned shafts while damping shocks and vibrations.

- pin/buffer (elastomeric studs)

How to choose

Choice of coupling will depend on:
- Torque and speed to be transmitted
- Shaft misalignment
- Load type: requiring torque fluctuation compensation (flexible elastic absorption) or perfectly synchronized (flexible, no-twist coupling)
- Size, available space, noise, disassembly
- Environment, temperature and other external factors
