There is a wide range of different construction of low voltage power cables. Neverthless, it is possible to identify 3 constituent parts:
* Conductors ensuring electric power transmission,
* Insulation ensuring the perfect degree of electrical safety, for the specified rated voltage,
* Sheaths for cable external protection, which characteristics essentially regard the application and installation conditions.
The most common materials used on conductors is copper and aluminium because of their high conductivity level and easy handling.
In what concerns the insulation materials, the most used are the compounds of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and cross linked polyethylene (XLPE). PVC has gradually been replaced by XLPE since the polyethylene has better electrical characteristics and endure higher temperatures.
With regard to cables protection, sheaths are usually made of polymeric materials and, when a higher mechanical protection is required, wire armours or metallic tapes are applied.
The growing need of people and building safety requires the usage in many installations of low voltage cables with improved fire behaviour. The sheaths and insulations of these fire proof cables are made of compounds with low halogen degree and, when submitted to fire, they exhibit low smoke emission, low opacity and low corrosivity emission.
In some special applications, namely in signalling and control circuits, it is important to reduce the electromagnetic interferences so, cables have a metallic screen, generally made of copper or aluminium wires or tapes

Cabelte began the manufacturing of medium voltage power cables in 1983 for a Project which required the strengthening of internal technical staff and a significant investment with new buildings and equipment for production and testing.
By that time, the range of products included, namely, cables to be used on low voltage power transmission public networks and in some industrial networks.
Throughout the years, new types of cables were developed – with more demanding technical requirements, having different design characteristics and cables for different markets. One should remark, those to be applied on airports, underground railways and wind farms.
The company has been following this evolution and, nowadays, it has a wide range of references covering the different rated voltages, several national and the most important international standards and also particular specifications adopted by some customers. Additional technical requirements may also be considered to comply, for instance, with applications in harsh environment.
In 2005 Cabelte invested in new production machinery allowing to double its capacity for supplying medium voltage cables.

The SPECIAL CABLES OF HIGH PERFORMANCE are used in facilities where there is great dynamic efforts of traction, torsion, flection, displacements at a high speed, and the cable is coiled and unrolled on coil, pulleys and sendings back with minimum radii of curvature. This type of cables specifically is provided for coilers, able chains, able cars, movable equipment, etc.
These cables are resistant to the abrasion, extension and wears away, as well as to chemical atmospheres like fats, oils and hydrocarbons, and losses temperatures until - 25ºC (other temperatures under factor K).
As far as its resistance the cable range holds tractions from 1 to 2Kg/mm2 of section of the conductors of the cable.
As far as their flexibility our cables admit curvature radios inferiors to conventional cables. These radii of curvature are in dynamics and vary according to the type of cable enters 8 6 times the diameter of the cable.
