KARL STORZ only uses cold light projectors with its endoscopic products. With this technology, light from the cold-light projector is transmitted through a fiberoptical or fluid lightguide to the endoscope tip.
Cold-light technology offers many benefits:
• Very bright light
• Heavy-duty, robust technology
• Compact size of fiberoptical lightguide
• Does not contain any significant heat radiation
Cold light is suitable for testing in potentially explosive environments. KARL STORZ cold light projectors are available with a choice of different lamp systems and performance levels, enabling us to provide you with the optimum light source for any conceivable application.

LD 8900 Goniometric Radiometer
For Characterizing Laser Diodes, LEDs, VCSELs and Fiber Optics.
Photon's LD 8900 Goniometric Radiometer for characterizing the angular radiation intensity of light provides direct real-time far-field measurements with 24 dB dynamic range, angular sampling of 0.055° and a field-of-view of &plusmin;72° (144°). The LD 8900 is ideal for characterizing the light flux from many light-emitting sources, including VCSELs, laser diodes, optical fibers, optical wave-guides, and more. The LD 8900 provides full three-dimensional measures of the far-field pattern in minutes or less, with better resolution than a CCD camera.
The LD 8900 is available with either a silicon detector or an InGaAs detector, and has a standard entrance aperture of 2 mm, with an optional 10-mm entrance aperture for use with large sources such as LEDs and LD bars. The LD 8900 is a modular unit designed for R&D, manufacturing, and custom applications, such as testing LDs at the wafer level, measuring optical fiber attributes. The complete system includes:
The Scan Unit
The Motion Control Module
PC (monitor is user supplied) with the Goniometric Radiometer Model GS880 Scan Control and Data Acquisition Card installed
Goniometric Radiometer Acquisition and Analysis Software for user-specified MS Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0
Power and Instrument Cables
An optional LD 8900 semi-custom source mount, specifically designed to meet your application needs, can be quoted upon request.

Radiant Imaging provides systems to precisely characterize the near-field output of light sources, as well as analysis software that utilizes the resultant data files. This software enables optical and illumination system designers to view and analyze Radiant Source Models™ in a variedois.htmty of ways, and generate ray sets for optical simulation.. Rays generated from Radiant Source Models™ are compatible with many other optical and illumination system design and analysis programs. A number of leading light source manufacturers now measure their products using our system and make the Radiant Source Models™ of representative samples available to designers.

The MELOT-TC is a system which is adjusted on a very high and absolute color-accuracy for the parallel test of color and intensity of self-luminescent objects in the visible area of light. With this modular system, it is possible to test 1 up to 961 measuring points in parallel. Disturbances through environment light are automatically compensated. As a stand-alone version the color and intensity of the test objects can be separately parameterised and evaluated. The measurement time for e.g. 31 objects depends on intensity and lies between 0,3 and 1,2 seconds for 31 objects. In use of WIN32 DLL by serial interface there is an additional output of measuring data in x, y, Y as well as the dominant wavelength and colortemperature.
Main characteristics of the system:
Parallel test of self-luminescent objects for their color and intensity
Output of measuring data in x, y, Y
Wavelength 400-700 nm
Spectrum resolution to 1 nm
Resolution 20 Bit
Dynamic > 140 db
12 amplification levels
Variable interfaces I/O and serial
Optimised range from 410 to 650 nm
Temperature compensation within the range from 20-55 degrees °C

Mantis combines the viewing ease of bench magnifiers with the high resolution of a microscope. Bench magnifiers have magnification and resolution limitations, while conventional-eyepiece systems are inherently difficult to use.
The Mantis large viewing area promotes maximum comfort while producing razor sharp, three dimensional stereo images.
The Mantis Elite hosts x2 - x20 magnification options with quick change turret allowing users to switch between low magnification inspection and high magnification fine detail tasks. Bright white, true colour, LED illumination providing over 10,000 hours of shadow-free viewing.
What is more, the Mantis Elite bench stand option benefits from both reflected and transmitted light and the added advantage of optimum stability with the floating stage, for intricate tasks and requiring careful manoeuvring.

Adjustment Facilities
Facilities are provided on the various models for making linear and rotary adjustments by means of manually adjustable and motor-driven axes. In combination with the stands, linear tables, cross-tables and control systems selected from our production range, this system facilitates the assembly of complete measuring sets.
Body-Tube Units
Flexibility of scope is provided for as applied to body-tube lengths, beam splitting and deflection. Use of appropriate optical equipment makes it possible to create finite and infinite body-tube lengths. A comprehensive assortment of optical components is available (lenses, eyepieces, prisms, beam splitters, filters, etc.).
