Sandvik Coromant is introducing a new family of rigid threading tools for the oil, gas and mechanical engineering sectors from Sandvik Coromant. These new tools provide a high level of stability for threading applications in demanding industries, where precision is paramount. A guide rail locks the insert in position to give stability for precise, repeatable thread cutting and assured indexing of the insert.
Sandvik Coromant has a new family of rigid high precision threading tools for the oil, gas and mechanical engineering industries, CoroThread 266. First to be launched is CoroThread 266 for 22mm and 27mm insert size.
Threading stability is achieved with a new design of iLock insert locking interface. This keeps the insert rigid, maintains the correct threading profile and reduces out-of-specification product rejection. The insert has a slot for each of its three indexible cutting edges. One slot is located on a raised guide rail on the new interface of the shim. This guide rail locks the insert in its correct position in the pocket, giving repeatable accuracy with each threading pass. Correct fitting and precise indexing can be done by touch alone, because the CoroThread 266 insert sits only on the guide rail, each time, every time and is screwed in place. It is impossible to misfit the insert with the new rigid rail technology, or for the insert to move once fixed.

Dies are used for external threading. Manual threading is the most usual method although machine threading is sometimes used for simple tasks.
A solid die usually cuts more accurately than a split die. However, dies which are supplied solid may be split

The time consuming job of grinding thread forms is entirely eliminated with the use of these Criterion Threading Tools. Based on the constant clearance design, they retain their true thread form even after 180 degree of the tool has been ground away. Top face grinding resharpens but will not alter the form or clearance.
