Brazed plate heat exchangers are made up of an individually defined number of high-quality embossed special steel plates that are permanently joined in a special vacuum brazing process using either copper or nickel. They are hermetically sealed without gaskets and can therefore handle the highest operating pressures and temperatures.
During assembly every other plate is rotated by 180 degrees in the plane to produce two separate flow channels in which the products involved in heat transfer flow in counter flow. The plate contours generate a highly turbulent flow allowing efficient heat transfer even at low volumetric flows. This prevents any soiling of the heat exchanger and non-flow zones are completely separate.
The surface of the brazed plate heat exchanger is utilized almost completely for heat transfer, and this makes the unit extremely space-saving and cost-effective.

Because conventionally sealed plate heat exchangers quickly
reach their limits with critical media, GEA PHE Systems provides the answer - the new Laser-Welded Cassettes (LWC) plate heat
exchanger. Agressive media types can now flow safely. The LWC range is based on the NT plate technology and benefits from the very latest computational design and manufacturing techniques.
LWC plate heat exchangers work on the principle of 100% separate flow paths. The critical medium moves through a hermetically welded flow path, transferring heat to the less critical medium in its own, conventional sealed
path. Without this strict separation, many industrial applications simply would not be possible.
Your advantages at a glance
- Excellent compatibility with critical media
- Low investment - high heat transfer
- Long service life through use of new materials and technologies
- Advanced technology for reliable operation
- Easy installation - easy access for cleaning
- Outstanding cost / benefit performance

The compact Maxchanger unit transfers heat in much the same way as the gasketed plate and frame heat exchanger, but does so without gaskets. This ensures greater compactness than a gasketed plate exchanger, and requires only 30-50% of space required for a shell and tube heat exchanger.
Extremely high "U" values and low pressure drops are a result of the unique geometry of its interspaces. The specially embossed dimples on each plate provide maximum pressure-resistant heat transfer contact points. This design allows the Maxchanger to be capable of running under high temperature/ high pressure applications.
Specially dimpled plates are rotated and welded completely together between end plates, and in alternate channels at the inlet / outlet ends and connections. This thoroughly seals the entire unit to prevent leaking or cross-contamination of hot and cold media.
Counter-current flow of fluids is achieved in all Maxchanger designs, providing a close temperature approach capability of less than 1C.
Channels formed between the welded plates and end connections direct the two heat transfer media counter-currently through alternate paths for immediate thermal response and maximum efficiency.

Our core products are fully welded heat exchangers in the Shell & Plate design, manufactured with laser welding technology.
The round design prevents too high pressure and thermal stress. The gasket-free design also allows it to be used for aggressive media.
State-of-the-art laser welding technology results in the highest weld quality and weld resistance.
The results are efficient units with long lifetimes, for trouble-free operation also under changing operating conditions.
GESMEX heat exchangers ensure reliability of operation in plants where this is essential.

A revolutionary type of plate heat exchanger constructed of 316 stainless steel plates brazed together to eliminate gaskets, heavy frames, weight, and bulk. The HoneycombTM (Model BP) design is an "Off-the-shelf" corrugated plate design for quick delivery. Design pressures to 435 PSIG and temperatures to 437°F. Flow rates to 190 GPM

|
|
The basic concept for a brazed plate heat exchanger (BPHE) is the use of stainless steel plates (AISI 316L), permanently brazed together with pure copper (99,9% Cu). These plates are then stacked together, alternative rotated of 180°, forming separate flow chambers where two medias exchange heat.

Gasketed plate apparatuses are heat exchangers with a modular design which are very flexible and can be easily adjusted. They are commonly used in commerce and industry. Corrugated plates are selected from the types / sizes available depending on the medium to be heated or cooled, where the medium's physical characteristics are of particular importance. The plates are then "assembled" into customised heat exchangers. Software is used to assist in the selection of type and size and greatly simplifies the listing of alternatives. Thermowave does however always use software developed in house to configure the apparatuses so that the latest advances in technology can be rapidly implemented. The ultimate goal here is to use our expertise and detailed knowledge to respond to requests from our customers and other interested parties, to allow in-house "know-how" to be assimilated and to make the software distinctive.
The usage limits of plate heat exchangers are often determined by the resistance of the plate and gasket material to the media in question. The 'database of practical knowledge' available within the company is indispensable at this point as is a fully functioning configuration programme.

The special hygiene requirements and stringent usage and environmental conditions applicable in the foodstuffs industry place greater demands on the design of and materials selected for a plate heat exchanger. The apparatus should be suitable for the company's own product but also resistant to the same extent to the various cleaning media used. The heat exchangers are often installed in damp environments and must not rust even if the room in which they are used is cleaned using fluids. They must also have a similar high-quality finish to the other machines in the room in which they are installed. Special, rapid release connections are selected as the connection variants (e.g. so-called "dairy pipe screw joints") so that all plate apparatuses can be used flexibly within their output limits. The special needs of the foodstuff in question are also taken into consideration when choosing the heat exchanger plate types and gaskets, since the fluids should of course pass the plate heat exchanger without taste, smell or colour being affected.
One decisive benefit of the ThermoLine's F series is its flexibility. Depending on application, all available plate sizes, types and materials can also be fitted in the F series apparatuses. The option of using laser welded modules greatly increases the possible usages of ThermoLine apparatuses in foodstuff applications. National and international requirements of foodstuff apparatus engineering are taken into account in the selection of plates and gaskets.

As a type of screwed plate device, the module welded plate heat exchanger has greatly expanded the field of application of this type of heat exchanger. Alongside the 'classic' exchange of heat between liquids, screwed plate apparatuses also cover applications at high operating pressure and / or phase transitions in the flow gap. One 'module' consists of two heat exchanger plates of the same size which are welded together by lasers. This laser welded seam is resistant to both high levels of static pressure and the changes in pressure commonly occurring. Since no additional material is used to weld the plates, more frequent changes in temperature can also be tolerated. The laser welded seam reduces the remaining seal length (seal between module A and module N) to 10 % of the seal length of a gasketed apparatus. It is financially advantageous to also use expensive special elastomers where necessary for the remaining ring gaskets.

Schmidt Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers
Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers represent the most compact, rugged and cost-effective means of transferring heat in many industrial and refrigerant applications. Built from 316 stainless steel with copper brazing materials, they provide exceptional corrosion resistance. The SB-Series features corrugated plates that produce highly turbulent flow in a true counter-current direction. This results in high efficiency and a very compact heat exchanger design. Due to the smaller size and reduced material content, they can be the most economical heat transfer choice.

Schmidt Gasketed Plate Heat Exchangers
SIGMA Plate Heat Exchangers utilize corrugated plates stacked between a fixed and a movable pressure plate. The corrugation patterns alternate for maximum operating pressures. As virtually all of the material is used for heat transfer, Plate Heat Exchangers can have large amounts of effective heat transfer surface in a small footprint. It is not uncommon that a Plate Heat Exchanger will have the same thermal capacity as a Shell & Tube five times larger.
The unique corrugation pattern pressed onto each Schmidt thermal plate produces the highest overall heat transfer rate by assuring highly turbulent flow and excellent fluid distribution across the entire surface. With high heat transfer rates and true counter current flow, Schmidt Plate Heat Exchangers economically handle close temperature approach requirements.
|
|
Schmidt Semi-Welded Plate Heat Exchangers
API Heat Transfer Semi-Welded plates feature plates that are welded using advanced laser welding techniques. Two plates are welded together and are fitted with a Viton® O-Ring and/or Teflon® gasket liner. The resulting plate pack has every other plate fully serviceable, while maintaining integrity of the welded plate pair.
This is especially suitable for critical fluids and gases, such as ammonia or caustic process chemicals where fluid loss is not acceptable. In the case of ammonia refrigeration, the reduced volume results in significant savings.
