BONO ARTES developed a innovative solution that matches gravity filtration with self-cleaning operation. The result is a very simple unit with high filtration efficiency and low installation costs that is particularly suitable for cooling water filtration where very large capacities are concerned.
Filtration of raw water is operated by gravity. The operating principle is the hydrostatic level of the water up to the sand layer. The unit is provided with three chambers: one contains the filtration media, one filtered water and another is used for the separation between the filling media and the clarified water storage. Filtered water here contained is used to backwash the filter when the pressure drop reaches the set-point value. Unlike pressure-operated filters requiring pumps and blowers, backwashing is done by gravity and no rotating machinery, spare parts and control equipment (automatic valves, flow-meter, regulating instruments, control panels etc.) are required . Moreover the filter is operated without any supervising personnel.
The benefits of such applications lay in the efficient filtration process, very low operating costs and the advantage of being able to treat large flows of water.

Polytech’s gravity bed filters, which offer automatic operation and use low cost bulk roll filter media, are well suited to applications with moderate contaminant levels. Contaminated liquid flows through non-woven synthetic filter fabric supported by the conveyor belt. As filtered contaminants restrict the liquid flow, the liquid level rises and actuates a float switch which starts the conveyor. Unlike so-called “deep bed filters” which utilize a submerged edge seal to prevent contaminated coolant from leaking directly into the filtered coolant tank, the filter paper contains the entire pool of liquid and filter paper is transported beneath the liquid. You get reliable filtration without seal maintenance. Gravity filters are available as filter chassis only or fully outfitted with tank, pump and electrical controls.

Gravity filtration
Head pressure of incoming coolant forces particulates over weirs or through a continuously moving media barrier. Clean coolant is then sent back to process.

The MonoScour filter is a heavy duty, high rate gravity filter designed for treating high turbidity loads and difficult particulates such as those typically encountered following chemical treatment with polymers and coagulants. It is particularly useful following clarifiers, lime softeners, in wastewater applications, cooling tower side stream filtration and all other gravity filter applications where high filtering rates are required.
The MonoScour filter is fully automatic and incorporates a self-contained backwash compartment that eliminates the need for backwash pumps and tanks. It also includes a vigorous air scour step to efficiently clean the filter media while minimizing the volume of backwash water consumed.
The Monovalve gravity filter is the predecessor to our Monoscour Filter product line.
