High-Volume Production
Sunnen high-volume bore sizing and finishing systems typically use automation to minimize labor costs and improve production rates. Most of these systems run two to three shifts per day. Low-maintenance designs keep the machines running and reduce costs. High-production tooling with field reloadable abrasive stones are available to optimize cycle time and minimize cost per part.
ML-5000 Power Stroked Honing Machine
Sunnen's fully-load ML-5000 is built for speed and precision. The ML-5000 is the most advanced horizontal power stroked honing machine on the market.
Two unique standard features, Programmable Stroke Contro and Cycle Time Control, ensure that the ML-5000 produces the highest quality, consistent results as it optimizes production time. Programmable Stroke Control eliminates taper by allowing the honing tool to dwell or short stroke at either end of the bore. This feature assures optimum geometry, even when finishing difficult parts such aas those with blind holes. Cycle Time Control is like cruise control on a honing machine. It assures increased productivity by automatically adjusting feed pressure to optimize abrasive performance.
The ML-5000 is up to six times faster than I.D. Grinding and can be set up in half the time for greatly increased production efficiencies. In addition, the ML-5000 delivers better bore geometry and produces the desirable oil-bearing crosshatch finish.
Features/Benefits
Can be used with Sunnen's TurboHone® multi-stone mandrels for fast stock removal.
High cutting pressure and fast surface speed with the powerful 4,1 kW (5.5 hp) spindle motor.
Fast, easy setup. Complete setup is handled from the front of the machine without rasing a cover.
No chucks or fixtures or special tooling required.
Automatic stone-wear compensator allows the feedup control to compensate for stone wear automatically during each cycle, improving ease of operation and increasing production.
Vertical control panel allows easier use. There are no contacts or switches to maintain.

SV-1000 Vertical Honing Machine
The Sunnen SV-1000 series vertical honing machines incorporate an all new stroking system (patent pending) that produces a true vertical stroke and can dwell in any part of the hole, end-to-end, selectively removing stock for the straightest, roundest bore possible. Plus the new feed system (patent pending) has load sensing to minimize cycle times and maximize productivity by reducing time spent "cutting air."
The innovative stroking system delivers extreme control and a consistent crosshatch pattern throughout the entire length of the hole -- a result nearly impossible until now.
Features/Benefits
Perfect for mid- to high-volume production in small bores from 3 mm to 65 mm (.120 to 2.56 in.)
Lubed-for-life stroke guide ways ensure superior performance and long, trouble-free life
Windows®-based PC industrial touch screen control panel features easy-to-use drop-down menus
Rugged, solid cast polymer base reduces vibration for enhanced performance and precision honing
Fast, simple setup with handwheel controlled servo axes: feed, stroke and optional rotary table

The machine is designed for the brush-deburring of items such as end-mills, gears and cutting tool holders. It consists of a base with large covers and is built around a rigid steel frame to minimise vibration and extend its operational life. The large front accessible covers are pneumatically driven and internal lighting facilitates maintenance.
The objects to be deburred are pneumatically clamped in the centre of the machine by means of a chuck. The three brushing units that are situated on the circumference of the chuck can then be positioned according to how the machine has been programmed.
The chuck either rotates or indexes during deburring but may also be moved in or out enabling the deburring of long work pieces, such as drills.
CNC operated axes control the high precision brushing of a work piece.
This machine automatically measures the diameter of the brushes in order to compensate for brush wear whilst being equipped with an electronic control system whereby the operating panel acts as an interface between operator and machine. The control feature of the 3BIPS stores the programmes created for all of your various work pieces.
The machine can also be adapted to an automatic loading/unloading system.

Since 1907, Barnes Bore Honing and Finishing Systems has been considered a world leader in developing innovative new technology and processes to help manufacturers improve product performance, quality and cost. The earliest Barnes honing machines were the first-ever to make honing a practical and efficient means of finishing automotive cylinder bores in a production environment. As production requirements increased, so too did Barnes' ability to meet the need for greater speed, accuracy and efficiency. The long history of innovation has today culminated in a new generation of stand-alone machines and complete turnkey systems that deliver improvements in bore accuracy, surface finish, productivity and efficiency that were unimaginable just a decade ago.

Compared to conventional honing, laser honing achieves distinctly better results. The laser technology makes it possible to create precisely defined surfaces.
Laser honing is a combination of honing and laser processing; specific amounts of oil are used within a precisely defined area in order to create a perfect flat-top surface. It is possible to define such a hydrodynamic system so that it can be applied precisely where it is required.
