SDT LeakTESTER
Leak testing by measuring mass flow
The SDT LeakTESTER operates on the principle of Mass Flow for manual or automatic testing of any component which must meet rigid tightness criteria, such as taps, catheters, pouches, flasks, packaging, bottles, syringes, cartridges, cooling circuits, shock absorbers, etc.
- Tightness is measured by recording the flow of gas (air, nitrogen, etc.), not the difference in pressure, between the reference volume and the piece being tested. A measurement is made of the flow rate in a flow sensor (mass flow sensor).
- Integration of the SDT LeakTESTER into the production chain is accompanied by the installation of pneumatic equipment whose control valves are opened and closed by the SDT LeakTESTER itself.
- The SDT LeakTESTER is a centralised electronic measurement unit which provides simultaneous automatic testing for leaks of 1 to 8 pieces generally as they emerge from the manufacturing process.
Unlike the method commonly used to measure a drop in pressure (pressure decay or delta-p), the SDT LeakTESTER also meets the growing demands of all manufacturers: Large range of measurement , fast measurement and versatility.

The most common use of ultrasonic noise detection is to locate leaks in pressurised systems. When air escapes through an orifice, the flow becomes turbulent. This vortex of air has an ultrasonic signature. This ultrasonic noise is characteristically identified as a "rushing" sound with very few discernable single audio tones. The Ultrasonic detector is specifically tuned to listen for this vortex tone.
Detection of leaks within high-pressure systems can be relatively simple. However, low-pressure systems require an addition technique. Very small leaks in fuel system "bag tanks" and welded seams etc can be too small to be detected using the ultrasonic vortex signature however, the leak can be amplified by adding a low viscosity liquid to the seam or joint. Small bubbles are generated at the location of the leak, these micro bubbles burst provoking ultrasonic emissions that are easily detected by the GE Druck AEROSPACE TOOL KIT.

SDT FLEX.US
LEAK DETECTION IS SERIOUS BUSINESS THAT REQUIRES SERIOUS TOOLS.
• Compressed air leaks account for between 30 and 40% of the total air demand in a factory. Finding and fixing leaks is the best opportunity we have for both energy and operating cost reduction.
• Detecting pneumatic leaks in vehicle brake systems is a high priority measure that ensures safer vehicles on our roadways.
• To verify the tightness of any volume (vehicles, aircraft, clean rooms, building envelope, nuclear containment walls, etc…) you need the reliability and precision of the ultrasonic testing method.
FLEX.US maintains the turbulent sound quality of a leak as it converts the ultrasonic noise to a sound humans can hear (hissing sound). Some instruments simply produce electronic signals (beeping) in the headset. These false signals do not distinguish a leak sound from other phenomena and make leak detection all but impossible.
Mounted on the end of a flexible steel pipe, the ultrasonic sensor can access any hard-to-reach location. To ensure comfort, the volume control is quickly adjusted when very loud ultrasounds are encountered. This sensitivity provides a high level of precision making leak detection a pleasure, not a chore.

General description
High Vacuum Technology has been finding uses in increased number of industrial applications. Especially so, in the case of development of nuclear components which calls for a high degree of vacuum tightness and a reliable leak detection method which can detect minutest leak paths.
The technique adopted in this spectrometer and the selection of helium gas as the tracer, compliments each other. Helium is known for its nontoxic, non-hazardous, nondestructive, available plentiful, relatively inexpensive and its presence in the atmosphere is a negligible 5 ppm and has a low atmospheric partial pressure which enables helium to present a low background signal. These special characters enables helium to go through smallest leak paths without effecting parts or process and thus be able to leak detect easily, reliably and economically. The leak detectors can be used for testing and measuring vacuum integrity in products like: Automotive parts, Bellows, Beverage can and food containers, Pressurized fluids, Vacuum packed solids, Electronic Feedthroughs, Electron tubes, Glass to metal seals, Heat Exchangers, Hermetic seals, Medical devices, Nuclear components, Quartz crystal packages, Refrigeration parts, Relays, Semiconductor packages, Transducers, Vacuum Hardware, Vacuum switches and in Systems like Electronic microscopes, Evaporation coils, Freeze dryers, Ion implanters, Nuclear reactors, Vacuum evaporators and Vacuum furnaces.

The parabolic probe for the SONAPHONE devices identifies sound emissions in the ultrasonic frequency range caused by compressed air leakages and electric partial discharges. The leakages within compressed air systems, industrial plants and machineries as well as within pipes difficult to access are detected quickly and reliably. Even leakages that are up to 20 m away from the testing site are detected due to the great operating distance of the SONOSPOT.
The use of the SONOSPOT leads to a reduction of energy costs and to a higher safety in operations since damages can be identified at a very early stage. The high sensor sensitivity and the very precise directivity allow the detection of electric partial discharges and isolation damages, e.g. at medium voltage installations.
The parabolic probe possesses an integrated red dot sight which leads to a precise detection of the ultrasound source. The insensitivity to background noises in the acoustic noise range is an optimal condition for applications within noise intensive areas, such as factory floors. The optimal ergonomics and the light weight enable an easy handling and transportation.

The TapTone 4000-DSC - Dual Sensor Compression (DSC) system is designed to inspect a wide variety of flexible containers for micro leaks. The design incorporates our patented dual sensor technology and high speed compression belts for improved accuracy and container handling. The system was designed for harsh, wet environments, like those found in the dairy industry. When combined with the optional X-ray sensor, the system can also perform fill level inspection.
X-ray Technology - measures the product fill level in steel, aluminum, glass, plastic and paper containers. An X-ray tube is used to produce a low-energy X-ray beam. The X-ray beam penetrates the side of the container in the area of the fill level. An X-ray detector is positioned on the opposite side of the container to measure the intensity of the beam after it goes through the container. The intensity of the beam is then compared to acceptable energy levels to determine the relative fill level of each container. The X-ray sensor is used to measure both overfilled and under filled products in all types of containers.
