How to choose this product
LED drivers are used to control light-emitting diode illumination. The LEDs can be arranged in different ways and in different quantities. Specific voltage and current control must be used to prevent scintillation.
LED drivers are used to control automobile interior and exterior lighting, LCD backlighting, CCD sensors, in portable electronic devices and for residential and commercial illumination and signs.
LED drivers use switch-mode voltage and pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques. Boost voltage lowering devices or buck or SEPIC voltage increasing devices deliver the appropriate voltage for LEDs in series. Such devices feature a current-memory choke. The input voltage is chopped to generate the appropriate voltage for LED activation.
A PWM control adjusts the backlighting intensity of an LCD in standby mode. It functions at high frequencies to avoid scintillation. Some drivers are specially designed for camera CCD sensors or camera flashes. Simpler drivers function without inductance, but following the same output-power control principle.
How to choose
Choose the LED driver by taking into account the disposition of the LEDs to be controlled, the current to be supplied and the available overall voltage for the device.
