Lid applying machine TFD400
Lid blanks blanks are positioned upright in the Magazine. Each tray is separated by vacuum and is then transferred horizontally into the forming station. During transfer, hot-melt adhe sive is applied to the blank, following which the forming plunger moves downwards, pushing the blank into the forming tool. The side fl aps are folded during the downwards movement and pneumatically-driven folders then secure the
corners, so that the blank is fully formed around the plunger. Vacuum pads take the lid out of the forming tool from below and rotate it through 180 degrees. Filled trays for lidding form a short queue into the machine. The fi rst tray is separated and is elevated through a former into the lidding position. Guides in the former ensure perfect alignment between tray and lid. When lidding is complete, the guides move out to release the lidded tray. Meantime, the next lid is formed, glued and positioned to await the next incoming tray. The forming plunger is fi xed size and replaceable, the forming tool is adjustable.

The machine consists essentially of:
* two pneumatic magazines with mechanical pick-up facility
* two closing heads, two continuous duty feed toothed units, two outfeed conveyors.
* The fully automatic cover cutting unit consists of:
- reel-holder with controlled pre-unwinding
- cutting die for shaping the covers
- a shearing unit for separating the cut cover;
The covers are sorted by pick-and-place systems, i.e. while the cover is on the left die, the cover is picked up for locating on the right die.
The machine is fully automatic, with constantly accelerating cams, ensuring highly efficient operation and long life.
The product exit point can be warmed to maintain food temperature during packaging.
3 versions are available:
A) double lane machine with seamed covers
B) double lane machine with heat-sealed covers
C) double lane machine with plastic trays and covers all the above versions are available with a single TA40 lane

The Alida robotics off-line unit automatically applies plastic lids on flowrapped wet-wipe packages.
This unit is equipped with a visual control system to assure the correct position of the lid to a tolerance of +/- 2 millimeters aligned with the label, that must have some printed reference for accuracy.
The use of the visual control system to detect positioning and orientation, on both label and lid on every cycle, makes the system very efficient by allowing packs to be processed even if not perfectly aligned. Products are fed into the lid applicator lengthwise in single file. The unit is ideally positioned along the discharge conveyor of a flowrapping machine.

ULMA Packaging and its commitment with innovation and the technological development, has developed a high production automatic lid packaging machine for trays. Easy to use and high reliability, it can be adapted to work with a wide range of lids which can be knocked out automatically. Its ergonomic design makes easier lid loading and quick format changing.
Lid packaging is composed by three different areas:
- Tray loading and centering
- Lid denester
- Lid placing
Tray feeding is made by a belt composed by rollers which work in different speeds. Vertical and horizontal cylinders help centering trays in order to place the lid automatically.
Lid denester has an ergonomic design, allowing tray pile loading in an approximately 1.500 mm height. Lid format changing is made quick and in an easy way obtaining a format change approximately in 2 minutes.
Lid placing is made by a spinning mechanism composed by two arms which unstack and place lids at the same time, allowing to obtain 100 tray/min. production speed.
