Design principle of the pneumatically and electromagnetically systems
The linear brake systems consist of the brake module, which is connected to the drive group (carriage, table) that moves, and a steel band, which is held at its ends under tension in special brackets.
This band is aligned parallel to the direction of movement of the drive. The wide sides of the band form the frictional surfaces against which the friction linings of the brake module act.
The force, with which the friction linings are pressed against the band to generate a frictional connection between band and brake module, is spring applied and pneumatically / electromagneticallly released. A number of brake modules can be arranged one behind the other to act on one band. The standard brackets holding the band are designed for a maximum force of 3.000 N per band. The brackets are mounted on the base plate of the linear drive or on the machine frame and serve at the same time for the aligning and pretensioning of the band.

Profile Rail Brake
Nexen's RB Series of linear profile guide rail brakes uses spring force to secure the load in holding applications. Superior response time and high force for stopping and holding in e-stop and power-off situations. Each RB brake clamps directly onto the center of the guide rail to provide positive braking and holding in all axes. These profile rail brakes hold position accurately by eliminating drive train backlash and elasticity.
Nexen's RB Series is engineered for dependable performance. With a revolutionary set of patent pending features, the RB Series provides an industry leading braking solution for linear profile guide rails. If personnel safety is required, an unrelated, redundant safety system is recommended.
Fits 15, 20, 25, 35, and 45 mm Profile Guide Rails |

Actuation
Safety Locks are held open by hydraulic (100 bar min) or pneumatic (3,5 bar min) mean and clamp when pressure drops.
Direction of load
In most applications Safey Locks are mounted on a baseplate, so that the load causes a compressive force to the mounting surface. But if the application requires an upward absorption of the load, a flange for attachment is required as well as a special design of the Safety Lock housing regarding the tensile load. |

The KWH/ KBH construction series is a hydraulically operated heavy load clamping/ braking device. The hydraulic oil pressurizes the large-surface contact sections directly onto the guide rail via a piston mechanism. A pre-tensioned reset spring enables short cycle times. The special diaphragm technology guarantees leak-free performance. The pressure ranges from 20 bar to a 100 bar maximum for sizes 25 and 30. All sizes from 35 to 65 operate at a pressure range from 30 bar to a maximum of 150 bar. The KW series features zero backlash and extremely low absorption volumes of maximum 3.8 ccm per clamping operation.
Available to match the following LM- guide brands: THK, Bosch-Rexroth, INA, Schneeberger, Hiwin, NSK, IKO, SKF, NB and more... |

Hydraulic super-heavy load clamping:
The Clamping Element with membrane technology KW
The KW series is a hydraulically operated heavy load clamping device. The hydraulic oil presses the large-surface contact sections directly onto the section rail guide via a piston mechanism. A pre-tensioned reset spring enables short cycle times.
The pressure ranges from 20 bar to a 100 bar maximum for sizes 25 and 30. All sizes from 35 to 125 operate in a pressure range from 30 bar to a 150 bar maximum. The KW series features zero backlash and extremely low absorption volumes of maximum 7.6 cm3 per clamping operation.

High holding forces - low cost:
The pneumatic Clamping Element MK.
The MK series is the classic Zimmer clamping element.
The patented wedge slide gear achieves high supporting forces. The pressure medium moves the wedge slide gear in a longitudinal direction. The resulting transverse movement presses contact sections with high force against the free surfaces of the section rail guide. The MK is clamped (closed) by pneumatic pressure.
MKS-type:
As extension for the MK-range it exists an element that works with spring-loaded energy storage. It opens with opening pressure of >5,5bar |

Powerful, durable, innovative and singular:
Our clamping and braking elements have been thoroughly developed and tested for tough, industrial applications. We do not only want to optimize elements and adapt them to new requirements but open up new applications by innovative developements. Our construction series shows a lot of special characteristics which are typical for all Zimmer developments:
We work hard to assure that each step in the design, pre-production and final assembly meets our quality standard.
