Profile Rail Brake
Nexen's RB Series of linear profile guide rail brakes uses spring force to secure the load in holding applications. Superior response time and high force for stopping and holding in e-stop and power-off situations. Each RB brake clamps directly onto the center of the guide rail to provide positive braking and holding in all axes. These profile rail brakes hold position accurately by eliminating drive train backlash and elasticity.
Nexen's RB Series is engineered for dependable performance. With a revolutionary set of patent pending features, the RB Series provides an industry leading braking solution for linear profile guide rails. If personnel safety is required, an unrelated, redundant safety system is recommended.

The SITEMA Safety Brake type KSP is designed to hold a vertical moved mass in one direction (against gravity). The holding is done on a round shaft. This could be an already existing cylinder rod or a separate rod. The Safety Catcher can also be used to catch the falling load in case of an emergency-stop. The holding force is relatively big in one direction (downwards) and in the other direction (upwards) relatively small.
Safety brakes are already used in the following applications
- vertical or diagonal machine tool axes
- vertical axes of loaders

The newcomer in the Ortlinghaus line of products for press drives is our hydraulically actuated form - fit linear motion lock, featuring electronic monitoring. This WORLD NOVELTY is used to lock the press ram regardless of it`s current position and can be integrated into the clutch itself. The activation of the linear motion lock can be implemented into the press control or can be activated by the machine operator from his panel. This easy to operate lock presents a maximum amount of safety for manual work within the area of the ram of presses and is regarded as a vital component for modern on the job safety.
|
|
Actuation
Safety Locks are held open by hydraulic (100 bar min) or pneumatic (3,5 bar min) mean and clamp when pressure drops.
Direction of load
In most applications Safey Locks are mounted on a baseplate, so that the load causes a compressive force to the mounting surface. But if the application requires an upward absorption of the load, a flange for attachment is required as well as a special design of the Safety Lock housing regarding the tensile load.

Hydraulic heavy load brake:
The Braking and Clamping Element with spring-loaded energy storage KBHS.
The KBHS series is a hydraulically operated heavy load brake featuring spring-loaded energy storage.
This function is based on the toggle lever principle. Pre-tensioned stress bolts provide holding force in case of pressure drop. Here the large-surface contact sections, which are equipped with a special brake lining, are pressed directly onto the free surfaces of the section rail.
At a hydraulic opening pressure of 150bar a holding power of up to 40,0000N is achieved.
The KBHS series features a compact design and is suitable from sizes 35 to 125.
The KBHS series is designed for braking and clamping on linear guides. Because of the material combination of the linear guide/contact section, the linear guide won't be damaged by the contact section

Active without pressure - compact and powerful:
The Clamping and Braking Element with spring-loaded energy storage UB.
The UB series combines the technology of our BW, TK and MB series. The rigid housing and central position of the wedge slide gear achieve very high supporting forces. The mounting hole template enables the BW, TK and MB series to be substituted. The UB series is based on a dual-effective wedge slide gear with spring-loaded energy storage for clamping and braking without pressure.
This arrangement of three pistons connected in a line allows use of a stronger spring at 5.5bar.
The stronger spring-loaded storage permits holding forces up to 9,000 N. Positive fit contact sections mounted within a strong casing guarantee high axial and horizontal rigidity.
The UB series is designed for braking on linear guides. Because of the material combination of the linear guide/contact section, the linear guide won't be damaged by the contact section.
In order to exclude damage from contamination with chips (chips between contact section and linear guide), the elements can be fitted with original seals (seal kit) from the respective linear guide manufacturer and longitudinal seals as accessories.
When used in harsh work environments or with cooling liquid, the seal kit should be used as well.

Hysteresis Brake Dynamometers (HD series) are versatile and ideal for testing in the low to middle power range (max. 14 kW intermittent duty). Hysteresis Brakes do not require speed to create torque, and therefore can provide a full motor ramp from free-run to locked rotor. Brake cooling is provided by convection (no external source) or by air (compressed air or dedicated blower) depending on the model. Hysteresis Dynamometers have both continuous and intermittent power ratings where the dynamometer is capable of dissipating more power for shorter periods of time. All Hysteresis Dynamometers have accuracy ratings of ±0.25% to ±0.5% full scale, depending on size and system configuration. Also available are special designs for high-speed motor testing.

Pure Hysteresis Brakes produce torque strictly through a magnetic air gap without the use of magnetic particles or friction components. This method of braking provides far superior operating characteristics (smoother torque, longer life, superior repeatability, high degree of controllability, and less maintenance and down time) which make them the preferred choice for precise tension control during the processing of nearly any material, web or strand.

Magnetic particle brakes and clutches are of simple design. Due to their size they produce a high torque compared to for instance hysteresis brakes. They are having two rotors (inner and outer) and an air gap between these two rotors where the magnetic particles are dispersed in. An electric current passing through the coil creates a magnetic field, which aligns the magnetic powder into the gap. The higher the current, the more rigid the connection between the inner and outer rotor becomes. The principle is the same for brake, clutch and torque limitor.
Advantages:
Noisless work
Torque directly proportional to current
Torque independant from r.p.m. (starting from 30 min)
Strong design, units are able to be used with steady slipping
High torque range to be controlled (approx 1:50)
Applications:
Braking
Torque control, torque limiting
Tension control at winding, unwinding
Starting clutch operation
Calculated braking and starting
of certain masses and inertias

Advantages
The superior design of these hysteresis devices provide several inherent advantages over magnetic-particle and friction devices. They operate on a frictionless design principle with virtually nor wear. This provides such advantages as: longer expected life, superior torque repeatability, life cycle cost advantages, broad speed range, excellent environmental stability and superior operational smoothness.
Control
In an electrically operated hysteresis brake or clutch, adjustment and control of torque is provided by a field coil. This allows for complete control of torque by adjusting DC current to the field coil. Adjustability from a minimum value (bearing drag) to a maximum value of 15 - 35% above rated torque is possible. In a permanent magnet device, the field coil is replaced by a magnet which provides the precise field strength necessary to produce rated torque without the need of electrical excitation. Since the field strength produced by a permanent magnet is a constant value, the resulting torque will also be constant. Physical realignment of the pole structure will result in limited (but predictable) changes in torque. Special designs utilizing this method are available and will allow for adjustments down to approximately 30 - 40% of rated torque.
Longer expected life
Hysteresis brakes and clutches produce torque strictly through a magnetic air gap, making them distinctly different from mechanical-friction and magnetic particle devices. Because hysteresis devices do not depend on friction or shear forces to produce torque, they do not suffer the problems of wear, particle aging and seal leakage. As a result, hysteresis devices typically have life expectancies many times that of friction and magnetic particle devices.
