VARiON Plus – Ion-selective measurement of Ammonium and Nitrate
with automatic compensation
WTW’s new highly variable ionic sensor VARiON Plus allows:
• The continuous measurement of ammonium and nitrate with dynamic compensation by auxiliary ion-selective potassium or chloride electrodes.
• A further available slot can be used for an additional measuring electrode – this allows to measure ammonium and nitrate with one sensor (2 in 1).
No calibration required! Instead, the sensor comes manufacturer-calibrated and uses long-term stable electrodes.
Low purchase and operating costs! Utmost stability of the electrodes doubles the lifespan of minimizing the operating costs. Additionally, the calibration work and the additional costs for calibration standards is ommitted.
The advantages of the new VARiON Plus system are obvious: This calibration free combination sensor can measure both Ammonium and Nitrate simultaneously. Due to low investment and operating costs, it is a highly cost-effective solution for a reliable 24 hours measurement directly in the process.

With new technology
The LDO oxygen probe and the pHD sc pH probe stand for superior technology. The LDO-Sensor determines the dissolved oxygen with an optical method, no more replacing of electrolyte or calibration. No electrode poisoning can occur because of the closed pHD sensor design. Less work and a longer service life in combination with gerater reliabilty translate into lower operating costs and appreciably more process dependabilty.
Wide range of applications
HACH LANGE probes can be installed in tanks, pipes or in bypasses - suitable mounting devices are available for every application.
By the application-specific design the probes can be exposed to aggressive fluids or high pressures.
The electrodes are kept separate from the sensitive digital electronics in an enclosure made of resistant plastic.

Analyze Up To 2 Samples A Minute
Today, there are numerous requirements for the analysis of oil based materials. Some of the more frequently employed include: the measurement of wear metals in lubricating oils, the measurement of additive packages in lubricating oils and the measurement of the elemental content of edible oils. Although the specific requirements of each of these analysis are quite different, the analytical approach used is very similar.
Typically, laboratories interested in measuring the elemental constituents of edible oils have fairly conservative sample analysis requirements; perhaps only 10 to 100 samples per day. Most of these labs chose the Profile Plus Oil Analyzer for this application.
Laboratories for which the primary application is the analysis of wear metals often have extreme sample throughput demands; often in excess of 1,000 samples per day. High throughput wear metals labs typically chose one of our simultaneous oil analyzers, such as the Profile HT or Prodigy HT for this task. A system like the Profile HT is capable of analyzing in excess of 2 samples per minute.

The field-proven Thermo Scientific SOLA II eliminates labor-intensive laboratory sampling by providing online analysis for continuous quality control of total sulfur content in liquid hydrocarbon and gaseous process streams. Fully-automated sample preparation negates the need to load vials, syringes or sample cups. The system is equipped with an on-board statistical analyzer that verifies the validity of each analysis. Full scale measurement ranges are from 0-5 ppm/wt to 0-9000 ppm/wt with detection limits as low as 0.25 ppm. The SOLA II is an online adaptation of the ASTM Method D5453 “Determination of Total Sulfur in Light Hydrocarbons, Motor Fuels and Oils by Ultraviolet Fluorescence” and the ISO Method 20846 “Petroleum Products – Determination of Sulfur Content of Automotive Fuels – Ultraviolet Fluorescence Method” and regularly demonstrates excellent agreement with total sulfur measurement methods, including ASTM D5453, ISO Method 20846, lead acetate colorimetry, and ASTM D2622. The SOLA II is comprised of a sample injection valve, a carrier gas flow control system, a mixing chamber, a Pyrolyzer, an optional dryer and a pulsed ultraviolet fluorescence (PUVF) detector. The SOLA II has a number of applications, including detection of sulfur to ensure diesel and gasoline are in compliance with clean fuel regulations, catalyst protection by controlling the sulfur level of the hydrocarbon feed into the reactor catalyst, monitoring the sulfur content of the flare gas to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and a dual calibration/dual stream model that enables two streams of radically different sulfur concentrations to be measured by a single analyzer.

TOC is used in a variety of applications from management of waste water treatment plant influent and effluent, to drinking water supply management and monitoring of impurities in process and natural waters. And the range of applications in which this type of on-line technology is used is expected to continue expanding.
In addition, because nitrogen is considered to be one of the factors which contributes to the over-proliferation of organisms in enclosed bodies of water, management of these public water sources and of treatment plant influent and effluent also includes demand for monitoring of nitrogen levels.

Loveland, Colorado, October 2002 — For the first time, an on-line sludge volume index measurement can provide wastewater treatment plant operators early warning of upset conditions. With Hach’s OptiQuant SVI Analyzer, operational decisions can be based on Sludge Volume results that have been determined objectively and accurately.
The analyzer gives operators a reliable, continuous analysis of Sludge Volume without frequent minimal intervention. The in-situ measurement provides accurate analysis by measuring a true representative sample directly in the aeration basin. In addition, the OptiQuant SVI Analyzer saves valuable time with on-line analysis and graphical display of the settling curve. This eliminates the need for manual plotting to determine sludge age and return activated sludge flow rate.
During a measurement cycle, the OptiQuant SVI Analyzer utilizes a sampling vessel that is submerged in the aeration basin. Liquid is purged from the vessel with air from a built-in air compressor. When the sampling vessel is full of air, a valve is opened, allowing the sludge to enter. A sampling orifice allows solids particles and flocs to remain intact within the vessel, without the aid of moving parts. The settling rate and final settled sludge volume are measured with the Infra-Cam™ device inside the sampling vessel. With the addition of an OptiQuant TS-line suspended solids probe, the analyzer calculates the Sludge Volume Index.
The OptiQuant SVI Analyzer is a convenient tool for the continuous monitoring of Sludge Volume and Sludge Volume Index in-situ, with objective, accurate results.
