| Safety-implemented circuits must be control reliable as mandated in U.S. and European standards. Control reliability is not provided by simple redundancy. There must also be monitoring of the safety circuitry to assure that redundancy is maintained. Monitoring may be achieved by using Omron STI safety monitoring relays that range in function from two-hand palm button control to dual channel input units with time-delayed outputs that conform to ANSI B11.19-2003, Section 6.1 for Performance of the Safety Related Function(s). All safety relays carry the CE mark and are designed to incorporate three points of safety in their operation to meet both European and U.S. requirements. All safety relays are UL and C-UL listed. |

Safety switches FR series
Pizzato Elettrica switches of the FR series with separate actuator reach the 4th generation. These switches are ideal for gates, protections, carter and all different guards which protect dangerous parts of a machine. The stainless steel actuator is fixed to the mobile section of the protection in order that every time the protection is opened the actuator is pulled out of the switch. A particular mechanism assures the positive opening of the electrical contacts by the pulling out of the actuator. These switches are easy to install and can be applied to any type of protection (hinged, sliding or removable). Furthermore the possibility of operating the switch only with the specific actuator assures that the machine can start again only when the guard is closed.
Pizzato Elettrica switches of the FR series distinguish themselves for the following characteristics:
• Rotating heads: by unscrewing the fixing screw the head can be rotated in 90° steps.
• Not detachable heads: the head “93” is perfectly interchangeable and compatible with the previous head “92” but it has the advantage that it is not detachable from the body, nonetheless it can rotate in 90° steps (Pizzato Elettrica patent). Practically speaking the new head is safer because it’s not possible to damage it during the installation.
The FR series complements the range of products that Pizzato Elettrica can offer to its customers. For further information, please visit the website www.pizzato.com or ask for the relative documentation. |

These safety switches are suitable for hinged safety guards, which need to be closed to ensure the necessary operational security.
The variety of requirements to be found in practice can be met by means of the wide range of safety switches for hinged guards.
Depending on the particular version of the switches, small doors and service flaps as well as heavy hinged doors on engineering machines and plants can be protected in such a way as to provide for easy setting up and maintenance.
Design and mode of operation:
A general advantage of the safety switches shown here is the integral cam within the safety switch. The requirements of EN 1088, such as positive linkage between cam and actuator as well as protection against tampering are thus fulfilled.
This combination within the switch provides cost advantage for the user in avoiding the necessity of mounting a specially designed cam.
These safety switches are mounted with slow action.
Protection class of all the safety switches is IP 67 |
|
These safety switches are ideal to control gates, sliding doors and other guards protecting dangerous parts of machine. The stainless steel actuator is fastened to the moving part of the guard, so it is removed from the switch on every opening of the guard. The switch mechanism guarantees that removing the actuator forces the positive opening of the electrical contacts. Easy to install, these switches can be applied to any kind of protection (with hinge, sliding and removable ones). Besides, the possibility to actuate the switch only with its actuator guarantees that the machine can be restarted only when the guard has been closed.
- Polymer housing, three M20 or M16 knock out conduit entries
- Protection degree IP67
- 6 contact blocks available
- 8 stainless steel actuators available
- 30 N actuator extraction force versions
- Silver contacts gold plated versions
- Cylindrical or slotted fixing holes
- Cover with hinged opening and with only one fixing screw. |
|
Application:
Safety switches with separate actuator are suitable for sliding, hinged and particularly removable safety guards, which need to be closed to ensure the necessary operational security. They are also suitable for fitting on profile sections and existing equipment.
In combination with safety control modules all safety switches with class 2 shown in this chapter achieve Control Category 3 or 4 to EN 954-1.
Design and mode of operation:
On the safety switches with class 2, the switching element is not physically connected to the actuator but functionally brought together or separated for switching. When the guarding device is opened, the actuator is separated from the base unit. In the process, NC contacts are positively opened and NO contacts closed.
Enclosure rating of all the safety switches is IP 67. The safety switches can be fitted in any desired mounting position.
Schmersal make both standard and AS-i Safety at Work safety switches with separate actuator.

When actuated, tactile safety monitoring devices stop the hazardous movement. The diversity of applications requires constructively different devices.
The safety edges of the SL range are suitable for safeguarding crushing and shearing points, that can be present on guards, lifting tables and platforms, mobile storage shelving, operating process tables, storage lifts, lift doors, loading ramps, lifting and tilting devices or industrial gates. They immediately stop the dangerous movement, thus preventing injury or destruction.
The safety flaps of the SL 300 range are designed for the protection of man and machine at machines with wide material input or feed areas.
The safety mats of the SMS 3 range are used to protect surfaces in danger zones on machines and plants with dangerous movements. Depending on the shape of the area to be protected, multiple safety mats can be electrically connected. When the safety mat is actuated, a signal is evaluated and the machine stop is initiated.
In combination with a connected safety-monitoring module, the three above-described systems achieve control category 3 or 4 to EN 954-1.

Forklifts account for thousands of serious injuries and dozens of deaths each year in North American workplaces. According to statistics reported to government inspectors by employers, every year 100 workers are killed and 20,000 seriously injured in forklift related accidents. Many more have sustained severe, life long injuries. Many accidents are due to overloading. Employers eager to increase efficiency at the expense of safety, encourage excess loads which can cause the forklift to tip over. In other cases workers are crushed when load limits are exceeded and materials fall.
Although, there are more than a million forklifts in use at construction sites, warehouses and businesses across the country, many of these machines are not properly maintained or equipped for safety. Equipment failure and poor maintenance procedures cause many preventable accidents.
Forklifts should be equipped with adequate safety systems including a simple on-board load weight overload indicator.

Door interlock switches are attached to the door of equipment where it is necessary to turn power on or off when the door is closed or opened. This type of control is used in applications where maintenance and testing must be performed inside a cabinet.
Interlock switches are supplied with one 1PDT snap action switch or two 1PDT miniature snap action switches.
The snap action switches are mounted in a frame and a single actuator, which is spring loaded, operates the switch.
When mounted in a door, the closing of the door forces the actuator against the spring thereby closing the switch.
When the door is open, the actuator springs out thereby opening the power circuit. The interlock switch has a service position, which allows service personnel to turn power on even when the cabinet door is open. When the door is closed, the switch automatically resets to the normal closed position.
