The SK-Series Control Relay is designed to be used in conjunction with safety elements such as Safety Contact Mats, Safety Contact Edges or Safety Contact Bumpers. The SK series relay utilized a current principle for monitoring the safety contact elements. This method of monitoring makes certain that the high demands for fault recognition as well as for safety are met. Relay switch status along with operating voltage status is displayed via LED’s. SK Series Relays are available in a variety of models depending on the application and conform to safety categories 2 and 3, EN 954-1 and are certified.

| GE Security Industrial safety interlock switches are used to detect the opening of guards-including doors, gates and/or removable covers-that prevent access to dangerous parts of a machine, and to help deter tampering with the guards or the internal machine controls. |
|
Safety switches are used to detect the opening of machine guard doors, gates or panels and to prevent physical access to dangerous areas of the machine. Safety switches are designed to help deter tampering with either the internal machine controls or guards while in an unsafe condition.
All mechanical safety switches are equipped with positive opening contacts that open any normally closed contacts to assure machine shutdown when an unsafe condition is detected. |

The ergonomically designed three position enabling devices are used for personnel safety when fault finding or testing. Holding the large button on the JSHD4 device in the ergonomic midpoint position provides 'run' output signals. If the button is pressed fully down or released a 'stop' signal is given. Jokab Safety has two versions of two hand control devices. The "SafeballTM" is a new ergonomic control device which provide varied gripping possibilities. We have also developed and included in our range a traditional two hand control device, the JSTD20.
A worker in a dangerous situation must be able to give a stop signal if he in panic pushes or releases the safety push-button. Enabling or Hold to Run devices are used during trouble shooting, programming and testing when no other safety devices are practical or possible.
If the worker has to enter a dangerous area to trouble-shoot or to test-drive a machine it is extremely important that he has the possibility to stop the machine without having to rely on someone else standing next to an emergency stop further away. In addition, no-one should be able to start the machine from the outside when the worker has stopped the facility with the three position push button.
Our ergonomical three-position/hold to run device is used as a safety device during trouble-shooting and testing. A ready signal is given in a distinct middle position. If the large "button" in the handle of the JSHD4 is pressed to the bottom or released a safe stop will be given. The two three-position buttons, JSHD2, in the handle are also used in programming units for both new and old Irb's.

Industrial plant safety is an issue that must be addressed thoroughly, putting employee safety first. Vehicles operating in close proximity to pedestrians are potentially dangerous when combined with the improper use of equipment. The Speedshield SS Compact unit reduces these risks in the workplace, by incorporating measures to ensure that equipment is operated in a safe manner.
The SS Compact provides the minimum level of safety controls for mobile plant equipment. As well as reducing risks in the workplace, the system also helps to save on costs, such as fuel, tyre wear and emissions. |

Safety contact rails are commonly used as break contacts on printing rollers and cutting machines. The rails consists of an aluminium support profile, C-profile, into which is fixed a rubber profile contact strip.
Bumpers are employed on automatic production lines to minimise danger to both people and machines. The large foam rubber cushions enable long practical braking and run through distances, thus enabling designers to optimise protection to both personnel and machines.
The ASK Safety Mat is used as personal protection within the dangerous areas around presses, robots, production lines, machines etc. When connected to a suitable monitoring system stepping on the Safety Mat will immediately be detected causing dangerous machine movements to be stopped. This is made possible by the detection of electrical contacts closing within the sandwich construction of the Mat.

| Pluto Safety-PLC from Jokab Safety is a new ”All-masters” safety-PLC concept, which simplifies the design of safety-systems. The Pluto concept provides highest safety level according to category 4 EN 954-1. Pluto can provide an economic solution for both a single machine and big machine systems. The key difference with the Pluto-concept is that there is no Master-Slave relationship of the control units connected to the safety-bus. Every Pluto is a Master unit and it sees the other Pluto´s inputs and outputs and can use their information to make decisions about it´s own safety. This enables simple communication and simple alterations of the safety system. With our Gateway, the information from the Pluto safety-bus can be transfered to other bus-systems creating larger networks. |

PICO-GUARDTM
The patent pending PICO-GUARDTM system is a unique combination of control-reliable, non-contacting photoelectric and fiber optic technologies that provide a low-cost alternative to cumbersome and costly methods for machine safeguarding. The fibers can be easily piped to points requiring safeguarding with no electrical wiring required. The controller has four independent optical channels, offering the ability to safeguard multiple points with one controller. The optical elements require no electrical connection and no electrical energy is used at the optical elements - all electronics are at the controller. Optical elements can be used either as emitters or receivers to simplify installation.
PICO-GUARD offers a simpler way to guard doors, openings and dangerous areas, compared with mechanical safety interlock switches. Because PICO-GUARD uses only optical elements, it eliminates electrical contacts and other
failure-prone mechanical components, including actuators that have alignment issues. PICO-GUARD fiber optic safety interlock switches are also several times smaller and several times lighter than mechanical switches. |

| An Omron STI Universal Safety Mat system (UM series safety mat combined with an MC3, MC4, or MC6) offers a simple method for guarding personnel around hazardous machines. A safety mat system offers freedom, flexibility, and reduced operator fatigue when compared with traditional guarding methods such as interlocked fences, pullback restraints or perimeter barriers. Full visibility of and access to the work area is maintained. |

Safety Catchers are used where personal protection and accident prevention must be provided against failure of lifting members in an area where loads or tools are raised. Protection, for example, if a hydraulic or pneumatic pressure system fails, or if a rope, chain, belt, or toothed drive breaks.
The SITEMA Safety Catcher will prevent the load from crashing down at any position of ascent; ratchless, mechanically safe and absolutely reliable. Because of its "self-intensifying clamp" operating principle, a safety level is achieved that is unsurpassed by any technological alternative. |

Optoelectronic safety device are used as entry, danger point or danger zone guards.
LS 30 range safety laser scanners detect invisibly and without physical contact over an angle of 190° and are mainly utilised as hazardous zone guards. The zone to be guarded can be individually definded, i.e. to suit the particular case, by means of user-oriented software. Up to two pairs of protection and warning zones can be monitored without the need for an additional safety monitoring module. By virtue of conventional means to guard the dangerous zone is either only realisable at the cost of high outlay or even completely impracticable, such as on pipe-bending machines, industrial robots and automated guided vehicles (AGV). LS 30 safety laser scanners achieve Control Categroy 3 to EN 954-1.

| The new OptoShield OS3101 uses harmless laser light to sense an intrusion into a guarded area. It can be configured for multiple irregular-shaped hazardous areas, making it an excellent choice for safeguarding work cells, transfer lines, robot stations, and automated guided vehicles. It’s the only laser scanner with patented Intrusion Indicators for instant visual feedback. Operators love it for its efficiency, as they can locate the intrusion and clear it immediately. Best of all, our configuration software is so intuitive, you can learn it today and remember it months from now. |

The safety monitoring modules shown in this chapter are suitable for the monitoring of guard door, Emergency Stop, fail-safe standstill and timing systems, for tactile and optoelectronic safety equipment as well as twin valves on press controls. Input expanders are available to monitor a number of guard doors. Output expanders serve to provide more contacts when many enabling paths are needed. Depending on the external circuit arrangements, the protection system can be secured up to Control Category 4 to EN 954-1.
