Large cutters that can be used on small machines
Disc concept aimed specifically for cutting aluminum on compact machines!
- Roughing
Disc Cutter S
- Finishing
Disc Cutter PRO
Why a disc cutter?
- Multiple passes must be made when cutting a wide range of workpieces on compact machines, which create offsets at the lapped areas.
- On a compact machine limited to a total tool weight of 3 kg including the arbor, the conventional ø125 steel cutter was overweight.
- Meanwhile, an aluminum body cutter that solves the weight issue requires a special arbor that extends the tool protrusion.
Solutions
- Arbor-and-cutter developed under a new concept. Made of steel, yet it is
thin, lightweight, and offers a high level of tool rigidity. Thus, highly efficient
cutting can be realized through the use of a large-diameter cutter, which could not be used in the past!

Sandvik Coromant is now launching CoroMill 690, a long edge cutter for titanium milling, specifically suitable for aerospace components, such as the structural parts of airframes, wings and fuselages and landing gear. The amount of titanium in high strength complex components is increasing and with this anticipated demand there is a critical need for improving machining efficiency.
CoroMill 690 is a high productivity cutter, with cutting inserts with four cutting edges for economic 2-D profile operations and optimised chip flutes to reduce chip jamming. Every insert pocket has a threaded coolant hole prepared for a nozzle for high pressure coolant delivery to optimize chip evacuation. The chip evacuation is highly appreciated when face and shoulder milling in cavities, in pockets or in full slots.
First choice applications include circular interpolation from a pre-drilled hole; edging and contouring and repeated square shoulder milling. The iLock rigid interface keeps the inserts rigid for consistently accurate milling. Axial support prevents insert breakages on the bottom row and chip jamming on the second row.
The CoroMill 690 long edge cutter is designed for use with the Coromant Capto modular tool holder system for stability and shank clearance, essential when machining long overhangs and reaches. The cutter is available in diameters of 50 to 100 mm, with two insert styles and closer pitch on large diameters for profiling.
The cutting inserts come in grades GC1030 or GC2040 in SL geometry, optimised for edging in titanium.

OSG is proud to present our new line of WXS™ End Mills. These new super-coated end mills utilize nanotechnology and are specifically designed for milling at higher speeds and temperatures.
OSG’s patented WXS™ coating has an increased oxidation temperature. This permits higher spindle speeds, leading to faster cycle times. As a result, the increased SFM (surface feet per minute) extends tool life since the generated heat actually improves the surface hardness of the WXS™ coating.
In addition, the optimization of the substrate with the WXS™ treatment on a molecular level increases adhesion strength, thereby decreasing the possibility of chipping.

CoroMill 490
Sandvik Coromant has launched the first of a new generation of shoulder mills, the CoroMill 490, which reduces machining costs by up to 25 per cent. CoroMill 490 is a high-precision tool for applications where reduced depths of cut and less final machining are required, as with the near net shape precision forgings and castings used by machine shops for higher productivity. Less, but more precise, work is needed on these castings and forgings. This is possible with the four edge insert design of CoroMill 490 and reduces substantially the cost per component for customers.
CoroMill 390
A new range of damped silent tools from Sandvik Coromant is bringing substantial performance benefits to complement the existing range of long and slender CoroMill® 390 milling cutters. Integrated dampening offers more efficient, vibration free machining to improve the performance of cutting tools working in deep cavities and pockets. The stabilization of the machining process in this way provides wider machine utilization for face and shoulder milling, especially in long overhangs and will boost the capabilities of long reaching tools.Reducing vibration in often tricky situations provides the confidence needed to increase the cutting parameters without compromising work piece quality. This enables the achievement of greater machining success with the CoroMill® 390 - including improved component surface finish and longer tool life.

KOMET® Quatron hi.feed -milling cutter
The success enjoyed by our tried and tested KUB Quatron® solid drill range continues in our new milling cutter range. With the unique Quatron indexable insert developed from solid drilling technology, we are extending our experience to the new Quatron hi.feed milling cutter.
Plunge milling (also known more simply as plunging) is a type of machining particularly suitable for cutting deep grooves and large cavities. Plunge milling can be the ideal solution for large projection lengths and unstable conditions.
Applications:
The Quatron hi.feed is a high-performance roughing tool for the fast removal of large quantities of cut metal.
Your PLUS:
* Mill cutting bores with just one tool rather than enlarging them with several drilling tools.
* Four cutting edges per insert lowers production costs per cutter.
* Increase in productivity thanks to high-volume chip removal.
* Deflection of passive forces in an axial direction. Plunge milling puts less stress on the spindle thanks to the lower loading.
* Variable manufacture of different diameters.
* Low cutting pressure.
* A tough substrate allows universal use for steel, cast iron and stainless materials.

Carmex Mill-Thread line of Inserts and Tool Holders is recognized worldwide for its full range of high quality inserts and tool holders answering to all the common thread standards and more.
Carmex system design is the most popular being produced also by most of the other thread milling tools manufacturers, thus, interchangeable, an advantage for the customers.
Carmex offers five different inserts sizes from 12mm up to 40mm length to cover applications from small to big diameters.
To support the inserts, a wide range of tool holders is included in the line, steel shank or carbide shank, for one insert or more.
All the tool holders including a built in coolant bore.
The advantages of using Mill-Thread tools and Carmex's in particular are:
* Same toolholder and insert can produce both right-hand and left-hand threads.
* A single insert & toolholder can produce a given thread on many diameters (External & Internal).
* Prismatic shape of insert's tail ensures exact and reliable clamping in the toolholder. Most inserts are double sided, having two cutting edges.
* Thread is produced in one tool pass.
* MT tools can produce tapered threads.
* Improved productivity thanks to increased cutting speeds and multitooth type carbide inserts.
* Threading to one pitch of a shoulder in a blind hole.
* Longer tool life thanks to a special multilayer coating process.
* Lower tooling costs, considerably less expensive than using taps and dies.
* Since lower machine power is required, a smaller machine can produce larger threads in a single operation with less idle time and tool changes.
* Enables machining of asymmetrical parts.

In developing the new solid carbide thread milling cutters for small threads from M1,6 to M8, Walter Prototyp has not only expanded its product range, but it has also introduced a new milling strategy onto the market. A short cutting section of just three pitches means the thread is milled in a special helix curve.
This new working principle gives rise to a significant reduction in centrifugal forces, which in turn increases the tool life and process reliability.
Orbital thread milling cutter for M1,6 and above
Greater shank diameter for vibration-free use, even with longer lengths
Shorter cutting edge, smaller helix angle and positive rake angle for reduced forces and a soft cut
Design for 2xd and 3xd deep threads
Ni27 thread milling cutter
Newly developed solid carbide thread milling cutter with rounded profile, which is particularly suitable for producing threads in high-quality and expensive nickel components (e.g. in the field of aerospace technology) with extremely high process reliability
